Galaxy 2-1 Dallas

By: Laurie | September 23rd, 2007

Every once in a rare while this season, the Galaxy can still put a silly, happy smile on my face. This was one of those days. A solid and well-played game that actually ended with a win. How long has it been since that happened? (Well, maybe it was the Colorado game. which I missed. But it’s been a long time since I’ve personally seen it happen.)

And not only that, a win over Dallas! Oh, happy day! HATE Dallas.

(Oh, wait. I said that already.)

Let’s look at the positives for this game:

– Three points for Cobi Jones’ 300th game! We couldn’t give him the final season he deserved, but at least we could give him this.

– Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork! Balls very frequently going to other Galaxy players, runs being made when and where they should have been, and a general sense, for once, that these guys had actually taken the field together a time or two. From the very beginning, this game was pretty to watch. That counts for something.

– The Gbandi ejection. Heehee. I love it when players aren’t smart enough to figure out that if they’ve already responded violently to a challenge and gotten one yellow, they really shouldn’t then go and pull a player down in the box. Thanks for the advantage, Chris!

– Another Landon Donovan PK, just to prove he’s back.

– Passionate play again. Everybody who was out there was playing like he meant it. And wasn’t Josh Tudela a pleasant surprise? Until today I really kind of expected him to be gone after this season, but he made his presence felt in this game. With a little more seasoning, he could be a factor.

– That Chris Klein goal. Absolutely beautifully played and completely unstoppable. I’m still not sure about the trade that brought him in, but I’m liking him more and more as the season goes on.

– And one more thing. Did I mention we beat Dallas? HATE Dallas.

I must confess here that I couldn’t watch the last eight minutes of the game. I had to leave the room. The team has given up SO MANY points in the last few minutes of a game, I just couldn’t watch it happen again.

But it didn’t happen. Yea, Galaxy!

(And, as they kept pointing out, the playoffs are still mathematically a possibility. Improbable, yes. But not completely out of the question. Should we even allow this thought into our heads, or is it just better to let it go?)

Why do you hate Dallas so much? I also hate Dallas and I’m wondering if its for the same reason you hate them.

NM, I found the post where you explain it. Not the same reason. I hate FC Dallas because I really got into MLS again this year after ignoring it for the last 10 years. The first Galaxy game I watched in a long time was the home opener where FCD beat the Galaxy at the Home Depot Center. Since then, I’ve hated Dallas.

CentralCoaster, they got on my “to be watched as a possible hated team” in that game. They didn’t make it to “fully and forever hated team” until the Seattle game.

And also it was Cobo’s 90th assist today.

Welcome to the rivalry. We’ve hated the Gals for a long long time, and their special treatment by the league.

    Go Hoops!!!

Chris Gbandi’s attempt to – what? – fall on top of (?) the Galaxy player from behind in the area surely counts as the dumbest play of the weekend. Retaliating on that hard foul probably counts as the second.
