RSL 2-2 Galaxy
By: Laurie | September 19th, 2007Confession here: I literally slept through the first half. I laid my jet-lagged head down for “just one minute” and then at 7:00 had to force my eyes open and my legs back over the side of the bed to go watch the game. So I have no idea what happened first half, but since the scoreline read 0-0 and the play in the beginning of the second half was ugly-boring, I don’t think I missed much.
First thought: A point! Nothing to turn our noses up at these days, regardless.
Second thought: Boy, does our defense suck without Xavier. We were damn lucky not to concede any goals in the run of play. (One came on a PK, the other on a pretty free kick that caught Cannon napping.) In general, though, Joe Cannon earned his keep yet again, making up for the inexperience in the back line on multiple occasions. Too bad it was his foul that caused the RSL PK. (In his defense, though, where were our defensive players? They blew that one totally.)
Third thought: Landon Donovan broke his PK jinx with a lovely blast into the upper right corner of the net. Yea, Landon!
Fourth thought: I hope they keep Gavin Glinton next year. That Donovan-to-Glinton goal was beautiful. It’s the kind of thing I wish we could have seen more of this year.
In general, though, I’m about ready to throw everybody else on the scrap heap and start over. Most of the play was thoroughly uninspiring and not worthy of being called “professional soccer.” I’d be curious to see what percentage of 50-50 balls we actually won. I’d guess it was pretty low. And if I had a dime for every turnover, I’d be Bill Gates.
But still. A point. Nothing to sneeze at this season.

Better than a loss =\ That’s the story of our season.
Just wanted to let you know that all the sports gear stores here in Japan carry the LA Galaxy jerseys alongside the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, etc.
Brought a tear to my eye =)

I wrote it, so figure I may as well pass it on. I saw great things - here, “great” means “momentous in their significance” - in last night’s game. Anyone else out there read A Series of Unfortunate Events?

Throwing everyone on the scrap heap and starting over is what got us to this point in the first place. We need consistency and … whatever … throw everyone out and start over, I don’t care.
