Galaxy. Ouch. Losing on Penalties.
By: Laurie | August 29th, 2007How much does it sum up this season that we essentially lost SuperLiga on an own goal, followed by missed penalties by the ultra-reliable Landon and Xavier?
Ouch.
More tomorrow.

I don’t know how the galaxy have beckham, donovan, and xavier and still manage to be the worst team in the league.

I thought they would pull it out in the end, but PKs are always a coin toss. It’s tough losing a match in which your team scores more goals than its opponents.

I can’t speak for all of Chivas USA’s fans, but I thought you guys played with a lot of heart. Hats off to Cobi, Cannon and Xavier. Above the rivalry, I care about US soccer and MLS was represented last night.

You remember when I made the Abel Xavier joke?

Massaer, refresh my aging brain. Which Xavier joke?

I said this “if Rami has definitly reached Ronaldinho-level skills with his keyboard, I hope I won’t be remembered for my Abel Xavier qualities once everything is said and done (the funny/ridiculous haircut and the ability to fake his way through a somewhat highly respectable career)”.

I thought the Galaxy played pretty well! Better than I was expecting given the last few results. It was a little befuddling that Pachuca backed off so much in the second half, but LA generated a lot of good chances. Amazing goal, for sure; it even topped Sportscenter’s Top 10 this morning, wonder of wonders.

I definitely suffered along with everyone else with this game. I was watching the second half again this morning (I guess I am a mashocist) and the team looked so much better then. As Rob said, Pachuca just backed off and the Galaxy had a few chances to score. What a heartbreak!

Nothing about Vagenas here? If you want to pin the blame for the Galaxy loss on someone, he’s your man. An own goal, and then a missed penalty kick! Had he not had the own goal, the Galaxy would have won. And even with the own goal, had he made the first penalty kick, the Galaxy would have won without needing to go to the sixth, which, when Pachuca converted and the Galaxy didn’t, meant the Galaxy lost. It seems Vagenas handed Pachuca the win on a platter!
