Galaxy Host Rapids in Open Cup
By: jen | May 26th, 2008
And Sideline Views will save the day. The game is not being televised and is only being broadcast via Spanish radio, so head on over to Sideline Views at 7:30 PST for some great liveblogging. (Correction: The Galaxy site will have the English radio broadcast.)
Both Landon and Becks have reunited with their respective national teams in London for Wednesdays friendly. Several sources are reporting that the US is looking good to defeat England. I’m not so sure about that, but it should be a good game nonetheless. Jeff Carlisle has a good article previewing the match. As we all know, this will be Donovan’s 100th cap. Congratulations Landon! But I’m particularly interested to see his play on Wednesday. He has been doing more strength training this season and has been punishing defenders so far this season, so it’ll be interesting to see what he can do on the national level — especially when there are so many other good US players that need to be marked. Mark him one v. one and he’s guaranteed to slip dangerously by his defender several times. Can you tell I’m a big Donovan fan? Oooh, it’s going to be so fun to watch!
Of course, Beckham will be there for his 101st cap (a much greater feat when playing for England). It’s quite possible that he and Donovan will be marking each other. The media is reporting a big to-do about David Bentley going after Beckham’s starting spot. I’m not sure why the hoopla, of course that’s what Bentley wants to do. And Capello hasn’t decided yet whether or not the right wing spot is Beckham’s to lose. For the 2010 World Cup Bentley may become a better choice than an older Beckham, but let’s wait and see how things play out shall we?
The Galaxy’s next game is Saturday, May 31st, against Streamer FC Toronto FC. It will be broadcast on Direct Kick, and Fox Sports West.

So what happens if we lose on Tuesday night? Are we done in the open cup then or what?

Aha, thanks for the info guys! I’ve made the correction.
And Justin, as far as I know the Open Cup is a single elimination tournament. So it’s do or die tonight I suppose.

i hate Bentley! (for his big-mouth! his arrogance! his cockiness! his disrespectful towards senior players, well, more to Becks! and England! for his obvious, main intention of getting rid of Becks and personal achievements rather than playing for England! his big-headed attitude! – EVERYTIME there’s an international game coming up!)
..but i love his play, i have to, cause he’s the one who’s gonna replace Becks (and maybe an England’s future)..but not now. not now. now is the time for him and Becks to play together. is that so hard for him to do? he needs to learn to be patient – it’s only for 2 more years or less than that, then he can achieve his dream. even his play hasn’t reach THAT level yet. if he is sooo good, Capello will pick him eventually.
so please just shut up – about everything – and let your feet do the talking will ya!Posted from

sorry for the “emotional” rendition up there. just getting tense of “reading and watching” the Bentley kid 24/7 for 3 days already.

Box, I see your point, but also notice how mis-quoted and edited Bentley’s remarks are. Not saying he isn’t cocky, but he’s always been clear that Becks was his idol and is now his role model (apparently not in terms of comments to the press, but nonetheless…). Even these quotes are bits of a current interview in which he said how hard it is going to be to try to make Becks’ position his own, and how much he still has to prove. Another case of a “story” that can be twisted to sell even better than a young player readying himself to take over a position. Most players talk about speak about it when they take on an iconic role or shirt number. Also remember that Beckham has said he likes his spirit — as he defended Rooney and other young England players for being passionate even if they hadn’t learned how to reign it in yet. Of course Bentley is not 18, but it goes without saying that Beckham has more patience than I do

i quite agree with you Diane..but i still prefer Bentley do the talking with his feet. and Beckham..we’ve NEVER heard him saying bad things to anyone (Sir Alex, Ramon Calderon, the media etc, etc) even if he deserves to do so, haven’t we? but don’t worry..i don’t believe Becks hates/dislike Bentley at all. what is the most important to Becks is England. in fact i believe Becks likes, even feels amuse towards Bentley.

So excited about the match, we’re seeing how many of the family can get out of work to watch! Will come to see if anyone else here was watching…best luck to the boys!!!!
p.s. Box, that’s exactly what I meant about those who have much more patience than me — I am still muttering and hissing to myself about Ramon Calderon >>>>:(
(SAF may be wrong and pathologically controlling, and more than a bit rude in speaking about other people’s wives, but I don’t see him as actually evil).Posted from

Well, so much for the Open Cup. That’s fine. We can focus on the league. On the bright side, Jazic was back in the starting lineup and Ruiz played 63 minutes. And my boy Mikey Randolph got some playing time again!

WTF does it take to get Cronin on the bench! Damn, give Wicks a chance. He did well with the one chance he’s had to prove himself, why not give him a chance in this game? At least Cronin showed signs of improvement in that game against Dallas.
