Galaxy-Wizards Recap (two days late)
By: Laurie | July 9th, 2007Okay, first thing. Am I the only one bugged by those Iso-Vision insets? It feels like every time the ball heads to the bottom of the screen, our view is blocked because we SO need to see those up-close-and-personal shots of Donovan or Pavon. Is this what we have to look forward to for the rest of the season after Becks arrives? Woohoo. Progress.
And yes, I finally got to watch the game. (Is it horrible of me to look forward to my husband traveling so I can sit for two uninterrupted hours and watch soccer?) And I have a few more thoughts:
–Carlos Pavon is still a big question mark in my mind. He could be huge, and he could be nothing. The reality, once he settles in, will be huge. Right? HUGE. Especially after Beckham’s crosses start hitting various Pavon body parts. I’m almost sure of it.
–Abel Xavier wasn’t as incredible as in the last game, but he still represents stability. I’m having these happy visions of him being the Ty Harden mentor, turning Harden into a long-term god of the LA central defense, with Xavier beside him for at least a couple of years. It’ll happen. I’m sure of it.
–Kelly Gray had flashes of brilliance. I have hope. But I’m still not sure that he and Pete Vagenas are the future of the defensive midfield.
–Kevin Hartman was before my time, but I’m not 100% certain that dumping him to bring in Joe Cannon was worth the cost.
–I worry about what will happen to Kyle Martino after Beckham arrives. He deserves better than to be cast aside.
–Damn, I love Cobi Jones. And this has nothing to do with that soccer-in-his-whities video. (And hell no, he wasn’t offsides that second goal.)
–And does anybody else think that Frank Yallop looks like Doug MacKenzie of the MacKenzie brothers (maybe minus a few pounds)? Can’t you just hear Yallop saying, “Take off, hoser”? (If not, you need to watch “Strange Brew.” Outstanding alcohol-fueled lowbrow humor.)
