An Official Reason for the Galaxy to be in the Pan-Pacific Tournament

By: Laurie | February 11th, 2008

I knew if we waited long enough the powers-that-be would come up with a reason that the Galaxy are playing in that Pan-Pacific tournament later this month. Or at least a reason that doesn’t (explicitly) involve the David Beckham = butts in seats = money factor.

According to Luis Bueno over at Sideline Views:

Incidentally, I heard an explanation last week about the participating teams. Supposedly it was to be the US champs (Houston), the Japanese champs (Gamba Osaka), an Australian team (Sydney FC) and the SuperLiga champs (Pachuca). But since Pachuca supposedly declined to participate, the SuperLiga runners-up were chosen to go, and thus we have the LA Galaxy.

See? I knew there was a reason. Or at least I knew they’d come up with one eventually.

Okay, I’m done snarking about the Galaxy schedule. Next post will be a positive, player-oriented one. I promise.
