Galaxy-Chelsea Today, 5:30 on ESPN. Are We Ready?

By: Laurie | July 21st, 2007

malouda1.jpgToday at 5:30 the Galaxy get to play one of the top English Premier League teams in front of an international audience. Are we ready?

(Is anybody else feeling the urge to curl up in a corner and suck your thumb?)

It should be interesting, though. Chelsea can be an exciting team to watch. According to Andy, they fielded two very different teams in each half in Tuesday’s game. Unfortunately they have the talent to do this.

Who to watch? The team is, again, loaded with talent, but I particularly like Didier Drogba, #11. Exciting and quite…um…dramatic. Which means yes, you may see the occasional flop. In fact, I think he’s a teacher at Diving School. This does not mean he’s not incredibly talented, and he scores a lot of 100% legitimate goals.

And you probably don’t care, but I’ll also be watching my French guys, holding midfielder Claude Makelele,#4, (remember: EYES UP!), multi-talented Lassana Diarra, #19, (who seems to have played rightback on Tuesday,) and their new acquisition, left winger Florent Malouda, #15, pictured. He just transferred in from Lyon in France, and I believe that Tuesday’s game was his Chelsea debut. Love Malouda.

Oh, wait. I’ve said that before.

Be sure to check out Andy’s Chelsea blog for more info.

UPDATE: As Martha has reminded me, for entertainment value you must also keep an eye on The Special One, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. It’s worth tuning in just to see what he’s wearing.

And to get you into the Chelsea mood, I’ll repost this video of Didier Drogba and Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann. As I said before, when I watched it as it was happening, I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

What, no love for the Special One? Come on, he’s the only real reason to watch Chelsea!

And I think you’re a bit hard on Drogba — he does dive from time to time (These days, what top line striker doesn’t? It’s pathetic, I realize.), but he’s also pretty much a genius, and terrifyingly strong and powerful. Go one, call him a diver to his face. I dare you!

I love Drogba. Did that not come through? I kid because I love. It’s true.

And the post is now updated with a special Special One emphasis.
