Push ESPN for US U-2o Coverage. Let’s Try this again.
By: Laurie | July 12th, 2007Dear losers at ESPN:
I’m sorry that you don’t consider the US U-20 team winning their group and advancing to the next round of the U-20 World Cup to be worthy of mainstream coverage. And I’m sorry you consider poker and “American Gladiators” to be sports. And I’m sorry that you were too overwhelmed by your latest herpes outbreak to read all of the e-mails that soccer supporters have sent your way recently. (Because what other excuse can there be?) I’m quite certain that this outbreak would never have happened if you had provided more soccer coverage. No, I don’t know how they’re linked, but there’s a connection somewhere. At least on a metaphysical level. I’m just glad that the Canadian station had the cojones to show the game.
With much love,
Laurie
Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, I’m ready to write the real one, which will be maybe a little more tactful. I will leave out the word “losers” and probably won’t even mention herpes.
But anyhoo.
The US advances, beating the diving, whining, sucker-punching crybabies of Uraguay 2-1 in extra time. (I liked them. Can you tell?) A come-from-behind game and a real nailbiter. Not particularly pretty (and nothing like the Brazil game), but a win is a win is a win. And if you don’t get CBUT or ESPNU, you probably didn’t see it. So now that the AAA All-Star game and the State Farm Home Run Derby (woohoo) are over, let’s see if we can’t again make the effort to bring the game to more people.
So here’s the deal, as before. First thing, click here and go to ESPN and make your request. (Again, nicely, please. Use the note above as an example of how not to do it.)
Second thing: If you write a blog of your own, include the link so YOUR readers get the message.
And Third: Pass on the message to all your sports-loving friends.
Got it? Good.
