The Video of Beckham’s 1998 Sending Off vs. Argentina

By: Laurie | March 18th, 2008

I went searching for video of David Beckham’s little meltdown at the end of the Dallas game the other night.

(I’m still trying to process that one. What’s up with his temper in this off-season? Is he trying to prove that he’s still got the passion for the game? Or is he just losing patience with life as his career winds down?)

Didn’t find that video, but I did find this one of his sending off in the 1998 World Cup. Thought you might like to see it.

Beckham looks SO young!

It was (and did I wonder about this out loud here?) definitely the integrity issue. At the post match press conference he said that the England issue wasn’t any extra pressure because he’s been having that kind of review for so long. He basically said that he was focusing on playing his best in the U.S. because so many people had questioned his motives for coming here at this age, and his seriousness about playing here. I’m hoping that after the first couple of matches (and one more agonizing tattoo), and a few choice words from the boss, the tension of waiting close to a year to prove himself will blow off. It would be nice to see the guerrero del caballero (”gentleman warrior” as he was called by a lot of Madrid fans) back along with the knee and ankle.

Re tats — even with 5 spice girls and 3 little boys to keep him company that man CANNOT have a three month layoff from football. During every injury layoff we take bets on whether or not he’s going to come back with a full leg.

I think Diane’s right. This is left over frustration
from last year and all the people in the US questioning
if he was worth it. He’s probably used to it in England
but not from the land were he was supposed to be the
savior. If we open up winning some games, it’ll all
hopefully melt away. If not, ……

Ugly uniforms! And what the hell is up with those Argentina jerseys. They don’t even look like Argentina.
