RSL-Galaxy Preview: Battle for the Cellar, Chapter 3
By: Laurie | September 19th, 2007Writing pregame reports is getting depressing. It’s gotten to the point that I’d rather gaze at photos of Barry Manilow and think, “Botox? Facelift? Both?”
But I, like you, shall soldier on. (Right? You are soldiering on with me, correct?) We are not those fair weather fans. In fact, to prove my undying love I am even considering going in and watching the Houston game on MLSnet. Is that dedication or what?
So what’s going on in preparation for the game tonight?
Let’s see. The Galaxy homepage gives us this delightfully optimistic sub-header: “Time running short on playoff hopes for Los Angeles.”
Because yeah. Those playoffs. Still within our reach. Of course they are. And with five wins in 22 games, we so deserve to go.
In other news, Joe Cannon has questioned some of his teammates’ passion.
“You just have to hope that everyone goes home and kind of lets this hurt a little bit,” stated Cannon. “I think there are some people around here, you get the feeling that they don’t, and that’s the most frustrating part.”
What? Galaxy guys just phoning it in? This season? Surely he jests. *Cough, cough*
So what else is going on for tonight’s game? Well, as usual in this overscheduled second half of the season, we have that injury report. Who’s on it tonight? LOS ANGELES GALAXY - OUT: DF Chris Albright (R hamstring); MF David Beckham (R knee); QUESTIONABLE: FW Edson Buddle (L hamstring); MF Kevin Harmse (R knee); DF Quavas Kirk (L foot); MF Peter Vagenas (L quad); DF Kyle Veris (R hip); DF Abel Xavier (L knee); PROBABLE: FW Alan Gordon (L foot); MF Kelly Gray (R calf); DF Ante Jazic (R ankle)
Some new ones since I’ve been gone. Glad to see we’re spreading the wealth.
The only good news I can see is that RSL has two players suspended: Fabian Espindola and Matias Mantilla. That’s something, right?
And, as always, I provide you with your reading material for the afternoon, the Galaxy Game Guide. And now your day is complete.
Hmm. Have I ever written a more cynical post that didn’t involve WAGs? I don’t think I have. It’s been that kinda season, hasn’t it?
Game’s at 6:00 Pacific tonight, with the game being shown on HDNet; KSL-NBC; FSN-W and MLSLive.
