Galaxy Schedule Another Meaningless Money-Making Friendly
By: Laurie | February 11th, 2008
Let’s go back to that schedule post for a second. Anybody notice anything different from last year?
How about…balance? How about spread out games? How about no more than five matches in any one month? After last year’s backloaded schedule, does this look like the path to heaven or what?
So what does the Galaxy do? They throw in another friendly. Against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Because that last nil-nil draw was so scintillating.
The game will be played not in Vancouver, but in Edmonton. Which is…pulling out my Canada map here… Farther away than Vancouver.
Granted, it’s not Quebec. But it ain’t San Diego either.
And when will this game be scheduled? Try April or May. Yeah, during the season.
I can understand the desire to ride the Beckham gravy train be soccer ambassadors across the globe. I really can. And chances are everything will be fine.
But Beckham will be turning 33 at the beginning of May, and each additional game he plays ups the chances of an injury. Maybe not by much, but that won’t be much consolation if his luck runs out up in Edmonton.
Stay healthy, Becks and Co. And how about if from here on out the front office focuses on the league season? Is that too much to ask?
Oh, and this is marginally on-topic: How do Canadians spell the name of their country?
C, eh? N, eh? D, eh?

Apparently you did notice the added friendlies–and the season, I mean Alexi’s speed-dial, hasn’t even gotten going yet! Money IS the root of at least some evil, ok a lot of evil. Anyway, I’m starting to get those images in my mind again of the old black & white boxing movies with the 25 year old crippled boxers and the evil promoters chewing on cigars. (anyone know how do you make an angry/ scowling icon?)
