Vote for our Becks for Goal of the Week

By: Laurie | April 7th, 2008

beckham-and-landycakes-sitting-in-a-tree.jpgLadies and gents, our very own David Beckham is up for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. At the time of this writing, his goal is running second to a nice-but-not-stellar effort by Houston’s Geoff Cameron.

Yes, the Cameron goal is nice. I’m happy to admit it. But let’s get real here. Did Cameron escape through the entire defense, completely unmarked, then nutmeg his own former goalkeeper for the score? I think not. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Goal of the Week should belong to David.

What this means is that we must all vote early and often for our Becks.

P.S. Did anybody else’s heart skip a little beat when they saw Beckham’s slide-on-the-knees goal celebration?

David? Honey? It’s sweet. It’s charming. It’s adorable to see you this happy. And you’re on the cusp of being thirty-flippin’-three years old, okay? Save it for the winning goal in the Cup final, when you’ll have the entire off-season to recuperate.

(Thanks to Diane for the link.)

It was a great goal and deserves to be the goal of the week. Quality touch from Beckham and in the back of the net. Our former goalie has to be hating that, with one of the reasons he wanted out of LA was the Beckham circus, and then he gets scored on by him.

Whats up with this name in the reserve game Mid fielder Raul Palomares. Was he just a guest or is something going on. I know that Dan is our ticket guy but Raul? I know there was hope for him years back but then, nothing. I didn’t hear anything about him and I can not find much using Google. Anyone have any info on him?

Why the devil is Landons goal not nominated for a goal of the week.., His chip over Canon was stellar, blew right by the defender and chipped a great goal? Becks was a good goal but not better than Lando’s..!

As a long-time Galaxy fan, I’ll give Beckham my vote(s) although I don’t really see Beckham’s goal as goal-of-the-week material. It was certainly a fine play by both Beckham and Donovan. But, for me, their collaboration on Donovan’s goal was vastly superior. Beckham’s one-touch chip into Donovan’s path was pure brilliance, as was Donovan’s lengthy run and one-touch chip over the keeper.

We can only vote for the one’s nominated guys! Both goals were nice efforts, Beckham’s may have been a little harder to thread and was also a great strike. But the collaboration on both were both fun.

    Hi Laurie, welcome home!

Donovan’s goal should have been listed as well as Beckham’s. Both were excellent candidates for goal of the week.

Woohoo indeed! I wrote a post on this over on The Offside’s main page today. :-)

(I didn’t vote because I forgot, being out of the country and all. Glad it didn’t make a hanging chad kind of difference.)

    voted.
Well I don’t think that David’s goal was the best and what is most strange that he got player of the week…he yes played good, but I’ve seen better Becks with much less mestakes, almost wasn’t involved in second half, which is not his fault-we see LA players are still learning to play together.
I wish he would strike much more from the long range

yeah, that was quite a goal! By the way, have you noticed that alot of the recent MLS goals have been scored in the same exact way as Beckham’s. Take Donovans for example. Exactly the same. Congrats, David on your first non-free-kick goal; And congrats to the Galaxy on your fantastic win! :)
