A British View of MLS
By: Laurie | August 9th, 2007I found this on Pitch Invasion, another of my favorite blogs.
I knew that the UK had created a new David Beckham-oriented show about MLS for British viewers called David Beckham’s Soccer USA. It’s apparently available here on Fox Soccer channel on Wednesdays? Has anybody watched it?
I didn’t know what it would be like until I saw this video. What do you think? Are we insulted, or are we grateful for the attention? Or both?
And that’s probably all of the creativity I can muster for the day. (A hint for you that will improve your life: When your dearly beloved wants to order lobster in a pub and offers to split it with you? Just say no. I think I’m going to curl up and die until the game starts.)

The version shown on FSC is different from the British version, I believe. I kind of enjoy the British version (it’s up on YouTube), especially how disgusted Tim Lovejoy looks every time he says the word “soccer.”

I forget the name of the host of the show, but he’s a transplant from SkySport’s “SoccerAM,” which is a off-color show on soccer, with highlights and scantily clad girls.
BBC stole their host for the Beckham program, and is basically showing the same show, without the girls.
So if it seems insulting… it’s supposed to be. It’s humor, tongue-in-cheek. They’ve been doing it to all the other leagues in SoccerAM. Nothing new.
I knew studying abroad for a semester in London would eventually pay off!

Oh how I learned very little. Not BBC, just the guy that sells everything to the BBC, Simon Fuller. He’s the brains who stole that host and transplanted him. I think his stuff runs on British Channel 5 (terrestrial).

I like it. I think MLS should be flattered to garner such attention. It was funny asking an English fan what MLS club he would support.
