Ellen’s All-Beckham Monologue

By: Laurie | April 24th, 2008

There are clips of the actual Beckham-on-Ellen show on YouTube, but I liked this better.

(P.S. I love Ellen.)

It was good show exept maybe one thing that I realy regret I saw it…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vto1T1e13IQ&feature=related
This is one of the reason he is hated,God, man has played 103 games in Champions league and three WC…he isn’t a stripper. Why they make him to show his body, you see how he is uncomfortable with it…Brad Pitt has nice torso too,do they always ask him to take his shirt off…
I’m a little bit disspointed, because I think he was supposed to talk about MLS more. Whoever arranges this talk shows for him should take care about that next time. Becks left Europe to promote football not his torso.
P.S. Capello told today that he watched Galaxy’s matches and satisfied with Beckham’s form,so 4-th WC is ahead of him.

When I saw the headline for this particular blogging, I knew the author had to be a woman. Women are the only people that find this chick funny. My wife made me sit through one of her stand up shows once… Jeezie Creezie. The worst is when I want to stab my eyes out as the wife’s quoting it to friends on the phone, saying things like “I am IN FOR THE NIGHT” and “I just had an ‘Ellen’ moment.” I guess an “Ellen” moment would be one where you wear high water khaki pants and a sweater/button down shirt combo and spend an hour or so being not funny. Wow, this comment went from an observation of the blogger’s obvious gender to something I may want to save for later marital counseling sessions. Thanks, Laurie! :-D

Since I am a soccer fan and know the sport well the obsession with his body/looks to the exclusion of his soccer playing bothers me at times too. But I have to think of it like Rugby maybe. Say there was a professional rugby league here in the U.S. and some hot Aussie, the best rugby player in the world with tons of world media attention, came to the league to play. As a typical daytime TV viewer I wouldn’t care much about his scrumming ability — I’d rather hear about his fame and good looks. And then I might become more interested in watching rugby and spending my money on it because here is this hot guy with a great personality and a sexy Aussie accent. So my interest in rugby may grow, but my being a fan of rugby (or the players) would be almost an insult to the women who actually know and love the sport.

Glad to be of help in keeping your marriage strong, Greg.

Mag and Jen, this almost sounds like a topic for its own post.

Becks has never seemed shy about sharing a view of his body with the world — like many other athletes who just aren’t as well known throughout — he’s clearly not physically modest and he’s certainly worked hard enough to keep fit.

He’s never been bothered by that particular criticism and has a great sense of humor about himself. Maybe he’s wrong that just because he has the confidence and focus to separate every other part of his public life from the football “side,” that others should be able to do so as well. But he set out from right early on to insist that footballers can play all kinds of roles not traditionally accepted…so I took this show all in good fun as I’m sure it was meant.

What I also found amusing was knowing that the one moment he WOULD have found troubling was missing the target during the little footy display at the end — you could tell he was ready to forget the audience and have a go until he made it!

you got it right Diane! not only just Becks himself, i for one felt too that David’s started to feel the frustation on not scoring the goal, especially after he had kick about 3 times and still hasn’t got it (while he supposed to be the most accurate crosser and passer in football!) and his last kick was getting stronger than the previous ones..and the ball NEARLY got in!! hahaha..(it really was a little bit funny) hmm..poor Becks. if only he got to take only ONE more kick..i bet the ball would go in. guess not being in the actual field does provide some distractions. ;)

that’s the David Beckham we know - he loves PERFECTION! ;>

oh yeah..about Becks got his shirt off LIVE on a tv show (not on the football pitch)..i was a bit surprise actually, knowing that he is a shy guy and all..but it really shows the humor side of him, especially seeing his “shy & naughty” smile in the end! ;D

Yes Diane, for sure you are right: like all talk shows this one was for fun and nothing more. But sometimes they just cross the line ond over use his looks and pay too much attention on his torso, which makes the whole thing a little bit annoying…I felt so stupid when Ellen said that he is the most successful player. Beckham isn’t…you know: Zedorf won 4 CL titles and he isn’t as well…lol
Yep,any promotion is a good promotion, espesially in our case with MLS. I just suggest that maybe in future they could talk more about MLS,like they could show more his goals or assists instead of Armany pics that they shew 1000 times.
I think that somewhere deep in the heart David understands that he already paid his bill for being famous, being off pitch idol and icon. He doesn’t owe anything to anybody,he has nothing to be shame of. Look at Scoles,Neville and Giggs are living legends in MU,they are bringing MU to second CL final… Becks could be one of them,he deserves it…He is very passionate about the game,he loves MU. But once he made choice to be not just a football player. He is responsiable for that. Becks knows rules of the “game” and accepts it.
I just hope somehow it will bring football and MLS far away from having players like Pete Veganes. lol

P.S. Ohhh he didn’t score becuase he hadn’t right shoes…hahaha

LOL, mag, I did have a thought that if it was a woman being interviewed with host saying all those things there would be a lawsuit and picket-line, but I think that’s what Ellen was having fun with. Certainly two people who don’t hesitate to live outside the box. Often a good thing.

Keeping fingers crossed for the match!!!!
