Galaxy Odds and Ends to Start Our Day
By: Laurie | July 19th, 2007First thing: I guess we (or more accurately you, dear commenters) were quoted on the British sports program SportsTalk this week. What did they talk about? Not our collective vast knowledge of the beautiful game, alas. We are apparently loved only for our snarky Posh comments about the TV show. Oh, well. Hey. We were quoted. In the UK. That’s something, right? Thanks to reader Josh for letting me know about this.
Second: I got my first up close and personal look at a Galaxy away jersey last night at the Sounders-Chivas game. Oh-my-gosh beautiful. The colors are eye-poppingly gorgeous. This has gone from “want” to “need.” Buying Beckham seems cheesy and giggly fifteen-year-old-ish, though. Maybe I’ll get an Xavier one?
Third: Okay, this isn’t Galaxy related, but how much fun was it last night to see my USL team, the Seattle Sounders, demolish the Chivas, 3-1? A lot. That’s how much. The French guy, Laurent Merlin, started and even scored the Chivas’ lone goal, but he didn’t impress me a whole bunch. Who did, though? The Sounders’ own French guy, Sebastien LeToux. He plays like the Energizer Bunny and gave the Chivas’ defense fits all night long. Alexi and Frank? If you’re reading this (and of course you are because, well, I mean, who doesn’t read this blog?) you NEED to purchase this player.
But wait till next year, because Sounders need him to take USL and the US Open Cup. You heard it here first.

LeToux is quality. He deserves better than to play for the Flounders. I think he had a trial with an MLS side before signing with Seattle, but British radio shouldn’t quote me on that.

“He deserves better than to play for the Flounders”
Oooh, I think I’m detecting a faint whiff of sour grapes.
Let’s see… Which team is still in the Open Cup? Is it the Timbers? Oh, wait, no, Sounders kicked their butts back to Portland in the last round.

Cinders fans. Whatever. Great match by Le Toux and the Sounders. We’ve got a blog, too.

I’m really looking forward to the match against the Rapids. They definitely are beatable, especially when we play them here in Seattle.
As far as I know it was FC Dallas that tried out Le Toux and there were a handful of other teams interested. However, I believe that they only tried him in defense. I really love having him as a striker because he is defensive-minded and doesn’t mind coming back to defend or win a ball every once in a while. Not to mention when he does come back he will sprint the entire length of the pitch, no problem. He really is a great package. The only thing he has that is not completely polished is his finishing. But that is something that is developing nicely over time. For a while he was missing at least one sitter per match but has really started to develop ice-cold nerves in front of goal.
As far as playing for LA… I’m not quite sure how he would fit in with the current lineup. It might take some time to figure out the best place to play him (maybe as an attacking mid in a diamond formation with Donovan up front proper?). As a CAM he would be able to take and make through balls and his distribution is class.
Ok, enough said. MLS… Just let us keep ‘im until the end of the season… Please??

That’s quite a record that the Timbers have amassed against the ironically named Victory. 15 points thanks to a very favorable schedule. Don’t hurt your tree-chopping arm while you pat yourself on the back.

Keith, how does any player fit into the team right now? I’m expecting Donovan to leave at the end of the year. Let’s see if he can figure in then…
I haven’t bought my tickets for the 7th yet, but will very soon!!
P.S. Say hi to Santa Maria for me. My husband and I met him at Kells during the US-Mexico game in February (or March) and thought he was an absolute sweetheart. It was fun to see him play Wednesday, and our kids were quite impressed when we were at the game and told them, “Hey, we know that guy.”
