Support for My Belief that US Soccer Fans Have High IQs
By: Laurie | May 1st, 2007Return with me to those glorious days of yesteryear…
You were in your high school English class, where the most exciting thing you generally studied was dangling participles. (Which, sounded FAR more interesting than it actually was.)
But then came The Day! Shakespeare day! The day you made the amazing, glorious, exciting discovery that Shakespeare wasn’t some stuffy old man in a wig. He was, instead, a funny guy who wrote dirty plays! And you got to read them in class! Hallelujah!!
Remember that day? Well, I’d like to point you to a blog post that will help you combine that excitement with your current, modern-day love of soccer. D at The DCenters has written a hysterically funny yet quite erudite post about The All Shakespeare Starting XI.
As a Galaxy blogger, my personal favorite is, of course, this description of this player on the bench:
M Hamlet – Transfer listed, he never seems to have settled in and lacks confidence in his decision making. May have been affected by the death of his father, it is hoped that a transfer back to Elsinore FC where he’ll be closer to mother and girlfriend (Bianca…. er, Ophelia) will provide him the comfort level to flourish.
Ooh. Sizzle.
Seriously, though, you HAVE to read this post. And don’t forget to read the comments, which have left me filled with hope for the future of our sport. Or at least the future of people who write about our sport.

They dug deep for Marina. She’s the Julio Arca of that team (playing on the wrong side, of course, but an under-publicized-yet-brilliant choice).
