2009 Salaries Are In
By: jen | March 6th, 2009
You can see a complete list of MLS salaries here. In the interest of time (read: I’m lazy tonight) I am listing Nick Green’s salaries roster from high to low. This is the players’ guaranteed salary after nonperformance bonuses.
David Beckham $6.5 million
Landon Donovan $900,000
Edson Buddle $179,950
Chris Klein $175,000
Eddie Lewis $165,722.29
Donovan Ricketts $150,000
Omar Gonzalez $142,000
Dema Kovalenko $137,618.75
Todd Dunivant $109,974.38
Israel Sesay $102,083.33
Tristan Bowen $96,363.63
Jovan Kirovski $80,000
Alan Gordon $79,754.40
Stefani Miglioranzi $79,499.96
Sean Franklin $76,850
Mike Magee $72,500
Josh Saunders $44,473.75
Josh Wicks $42,000
Leonard Griffin $39,500
A.J. DeLaGarza $36,000
Julian Valentin $34,000
Bryan Jordan $34,000
Josh Tudela $34,000
EDIT: Reader Frank has posted a link describing the salary breakdown in the comments. You can also look at 2007’s and 2008’s league salaries. Thanks Frank!
What stands out the most to me is Sesay’s salary. Does anyone know why it is so high? It seems he has yet to fulfill his potential, which is what his salary seems to be based on.
Kirovski’s salary seems a bit low to me as well. I’d want to take about $20,000 off of Buddle’s salary and give it to Jovan.
My caretaking maternal area notes that Josh Tudela’s salary has finally been raised. For the past two years he has made $17,500 — this year he is up to $34,000.
Klein’s salary may be high, but he’s worth it not only on, but off the field.
Donovan’s salary is the same as last year.
Beckham? Whatever.

You’re welcome, Jen! I’m happy to contribute whatever MLS info I happen to find. I’ll have some comments on the salaries after I get back from dinner and a movie. Everyone have a great weekend!

Sesay is a GA player just like Tristan.

Also those numbers are the max they can earn not the base.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen the GA salaries are always skewed high, which is one of the reasons guys like Quavas Kirk have such a hard time when their salaries count against the cap and get adjusted to their play.

It’s interesting to see Ty Harden on Colorado’s payroll at $34,008 which is about $4,000 more dollars than he saw with the G’s in 2007 at $30,000. I hope he made some good money on his one year leave from futbol.

I’m also surprised by the guaranteed compensation salary of Omar Gonzalez at $142,000.

Omar is a GA player also.

Wait… Ty Harden’s back?!?! How did I miss this? I would have thought it would be in the Seattle press, seeing how he’s a University of Washington guy.

That surprises me too, Laurie — well, that the news didn’t hit up there.
Thanks for the GA salary clarifications guys. That helps a lot!

Laurie,
The G’s traded Harden’s rights a month or so ago to Colorado for some flank steaks, a case of scotch, and some bailing wire to attach goal nets to goal frames.
Or a second round pick in the 2010 SuperDraft.
