Reason #5327 to Hate Galaxy Management

According to a recent Andrea Canales article on USSoccerplayers.com, here’s a bit more on the Chris Albright deal:
After five years as a key player with the Galaxy, Albright signed a new contract with LA in January, even taking a lower salary. Such a move seemed to make sense, as the team was working to squeeze under the salary cap, but the Galaxy then turned around and traded him to New England.
While he would not comment on the details of the move, Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas said that, “Whether for us, or for another club, Albright is being compensated at the level which a top player at his position gets in this league.”
What is becoming clear, though, is that players are increasingly aware that loyalty to a club, or even the league in general, is perhaps a sentimental luxury they cannot afford as professional sportsmen with a limited playing career.
“It was tough, because he’s been a player here for so long,” said Galaxy midfielder Pete Vagenas of Albright’s trade. “He’s contributed immensely. He’s part of what has got this franchise to this point.”
And my understanding is that because the players technically contract with the league and not with the individual teams, the contract terms are still binding even though he’s not playing with the team he signed on for. If he’d known he wasn’t going to stay at the Galaxy, he might have negotiated a better deal.
Way to treat your players right, Galaxy management.

If you haven’t seen or watched Fox Football Fone-in every Tuesday you really should, last night nick and steven challenged David Beckham to come on the show and defend himself over claims that he is more catering to his celebrity status then he is to the football community, and guess who calls in? none other than alexi lalas to defend the “biased” opinion of the two show hosts (nick and steven) what followed was hilarious he stayed on the phone for quite some time more than half an hour it was a must see but somehow this doesn’t get talked about!?!?! This is news! Also Alexi promised he would try and get DB on the show!

Alexi Lalas is a jackass. I’m sure they needed the money from trading Chris, but I think it will hurt them in the long run. He has so much experience, but I’m sure he’ll make a great impact in New England. One of those you scratch your head and wonder if anyone is awake at the wheel……

I’ve been going a little crazy on this whole issue over the past couple days. And it was actually the screwing of Albright that inspired much of it….then again, his new home (New England) is no Players’ Paradise either.

By forcing Albright to take a lower salary, they probably made him more “tradeable”. Otherwise, NE might not have taken him. They’re just playing by the rules. Welcome to single-entity!

This is why I question whether MLS can actually ever turn into a real league as long as it’s a single-entity.
Chris gets munched, Galaxy fans get snubbed and they expect us to buy tix. Then Lala calls into to FFF and tries to dis the die hard football fans in the US. He’s a tool.
How do we get rid of him? I’d let the air outta his tires if I thought it would help. But Lala would stand there in front of a camera and claim his tires are full of air and the grinding sound from the rims on the asphalt is just the sweet smell of success.
I say every home match we bring Lala t-shirts with the red circle and line through them. And we give ESPN (another pack o’ morons) and other teevee personalities free tees to get the message out there, eh?
