When Branding Runs Amok. OR: You, too, can own your own David Beckham Wastebasket!!

By: Laurie | April 14th, 2008

beckham-garbage-can.jpgI don’t know why I’ve never visited the “Home and Office” section of the MLS Gear store. But once I received the email with the direct link, I had to stop by. Because I just knew that it would be good.

And I was not disappointed.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to introduce you to the new David Beckham Wastebasket!

I have no idea why this made me giggle, but it did.

I think they should have me do their copywriting. I believe the text here really should read:

“Decorated with the smiling face of David Beckham, this wastebasket is the perfect place to put the Galaxy’s 2008 playoff hopes, unless we can upgrade the backline.”

Damn. I guess that game left me feeling a little snarky.

Laurie, I like your new description of the Beckham wastebasket. Maybe he should brand a toilet because our season is starting in the crapper!

    “Place Greg Vanney’s contract here.”

I dream of a repeat of 2005, except this time we really have the Hollywood cred to go along with the ending.

Can we get a Chris Albright paper-shredder for contracts to go with this?

I’m with Nathan, put Vanney’s contract in that thing.

Seriously, weren’t these printed waste cans the big thing back in like, 1978?

Vanney definitely either needs to step up or be replaced. The young guys are showing promise, but the veteran back there cannot be the one getting burned. Also, if Peter Vagenas wants to see the field, he needs to play like it. The third goal for Toronto was on his head for not going after the ball moments earlier and letting Toronto gain control. Simply pathetic. His salary is being wasted, IMHO.

Is everyone too nervous to think the Galaxy should get rid of Abel for $150,000 more or less? Am I missing something in him? Or is it a contract situation. Good grief, I forgot everything (was it bluemeanies) ever told us about contracts. Also the number of players allowed in a squad. Obviously I’m ready for MLS lesson #374. And no I don’t have ADD, just four kids.

    New link: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2008/04/a-supporters–2.html

For some reason the last posting merged two dashes..,

If it does it again, there should be two dashes between “supporters” and “2″.
