Best. MLS. Rule. Ever.
By: Laurie | November 13th, 2007Since I am a Galaxy fan/blogger, I have been trying to temper my excitement over the news of the new Seattle MLS franchise coming in 2009. At least when I’m writing this blog. (I may be doing a little week-long happy dance, but I’m trying very hard to hide it from you. Because yes, I do still love my Gals.)
But I do have to report on what I think is the best MLS rule ever, coming from one of our new owners, Drew Carey:
And here’s another radical idea: Fans will be able to buy membership in the team, which will give them the power to vote out the general manager. That, too, came from Carey
Hmm. Drew Carey is a Galaxy fan. Where do you think that idea might have come from?

I knew you’d love that little bit of news most of all, Laurie.

The club membership/stock ownership model comes from Europe.

Misareaux, maybe so, but I’ll bet the “firing the GM” part has special resonance to an LA fan.

I was at the pub where the announcement was made yesterday. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised to see Drew Carey walk in. And I can tell you that the rule was well received by the people that came out for the announcement. I think it will give the fans more of a personal investment in the team that will help build a strong and loyal base of support.

I was at the pub too (Reading v. Arsenal, after all) and he kept referring to it as the Barcelona model. Sounds pretty exciting, and jz is right, the fans there were very positive about the idea.
Also, there will be a marching band.
