Can’t. Wait. For. Sunday.
(and I’m a little nervous too.)

You touched on this, but I’ll go a small step further and say that I’ve actually seen the Galaxy as the underdog in this match. It’s been a successful campaign so far but one that required a lot of graft. The players are tired and if, for any reason, they don’t get the extra charge of adrenaline that the final SHOULD bring, that could be a problem. Also, RSL are considered the underdog and are milking that for the power it brings — never underestimate an underdog with at least one tooth on the bone. That should have been the Galaxy and hopefully that message has been sent from within, since the other is just in the press.
Finally, because of age, speed, a couple of injuries and the fact that the Galaxy require both finesse and luck to be successful, the artificial turf could be a huge burden.
I’m not being pessimistic, I just wish the labeling had gone the other way because the Galaxy have just as much of a fight ahead of them as RSL and will need the mind-set that they are still “fighting back.”
Alan Gordon throws a hell of a fish.

Was very happy to see that side show of a club get beaten. LA Galaxy is nothing more than an expensive gimmick. (last sentence deleted by jen due to racist comment)

Would you believe I (the Beckham-hater) actually felt bad for Beckham last night? It just wasn’t his night. And I kind of liked him more because he numbed up his ankle for the MLS final like he did for Real Madrid.
(Wonder if he’ll be crocked for Milan the way he was for the 2007 Galaxy because of it?)
A very, very fun game to be at, though, and Saunders did an admirable job under difficult circumstances. He should be some team’s #1.

Laurie, I was just coming here to post that — that Saunders needs to be an MLS team’s #1 keeper. He can certainly do a better job than Josh Wicks did for DC.
I’m sad. Bummed. I felt so bad for the guys, especially Landon. Yeah, he should have made that shot. And yeah, shit like that happens to the best of them. But what a time for it to happen.
I have to say that I was very happy for Andy Williams though. After the year he’s had, and with no legs left AT ALL after overtime, I was glad he was the one who made the strike for the win. If RSL had to win, that was a great way to do it. Good for you, Andy.

Question for Galaxy fans, if anybody knows the answer. It’s driving me crazy.
After the game, Beckham was comforting an upset player or staffer. (Wearing cleats, so I assume it’s a player.) I can’t for the life of me figure out who it was, and I was on the wrong side of the stadium to see a face. Somebody suggested it might be Donovan (who Beckham was apparently comforting after the PK — I didn’t see that.) But this guy didn’t move like Donovan. By build he kind of looks like Bryan Jordan?
Anybody have a clue? Not sure why i need to know this, but I do.

I don’t understand what Arena sees in Edson Buddle. He was terrific last year, but this year, especially the last 3 games, he doesn’t even seem to be trying. I think Alan Gordan has done more for the Galaxy this season than Buddle.

There’s some amazing goalkeeper talent in this Expansion Draft. Josh Saunders, Kevin Hartman, Pat Onstad…
And poor Alan Gordon. He don’t get no respect.

Jen, if Chris goes to Philly
I think you and I will both be in driving distance! A minor silver lining, but still…Re older players, as you suggest, the theory is that they are least likely to be picked so less of a risk if unprotected. Terrible list to have to make.

Donovan’s boots were all black, these are white with black trim of some kind. From the boots I could see on the guys small enough, it could have been McGee or Birchall, and maybe Jordan but I couldn’t see his boots. Would those guys have had time to put on warm-ups when you took the picture? They get them on pretty quick.
And of course we need to know which of the children are looking particularly sad at any given moment!

Also, AJ DeLagarza wears the right boots and he’s slight but pretty tall.

I hope someone takes Kirovski but I doubt it. I would be disappointed, but not surprised, to see Lewis or Klein go. Of the two, I think Lewis is the more likely to be taken. There are a lot of good, unprotected players out there: Chris Rolfe, Frankie Hejduk (I would grab him if only for his emotional drive and experience), Dave Van Den Bergh, Luciano Emilio, Wade Barrett, Ricardo Clark, Pat Onstad, Richard Mulrooney, Kevin Hartman, Chris Albright, Jay Heaps, Clint Mathis, Ned Grabavoy, Bobby Convey. And of course, let’s not forget Pete Vagenas!
Who they take from us depends on what they get elsewhere. I think most likely is Dunivant, followed by Lewis, Saunders, Klein, Kirovski. Saunders in the back could be the wild card, but I would think they take Hartman or Onstad before him.

NOOOOO…I don’t want Josh Sounders to go!!! If Ricketts got injured in a match, who would replace him?? WHO??!

Diane, I’d need to spend the night in Philly. Want to room together?
Of those keepers I’d probably take Hartman. And I have a soft spot for Clint Mathis. He was such an arrogant prick of a time-bomb when he was with LA (and still at times), but I’ve always loved his spunk. He’s still got it, and is young enough to play a full 90 for a team who needs a striking offensive midfielder.
We’ll know who they choose tomorrow. If I’m not too bogged down with family/holiday stuff tomorrow I’ll put up a quick post.

Of course, Jen! 24 hours of footy gossip? That’s the best proposition I’ve had in years. Even without Chris, I’ve loved it that Philly had a fan club before a team and would probably take the trip, for an interesting match-up, just to see how they make out WITH one.

Miglioranzi is supposed to be one of the nicest guys in football (or anywhere apparently), but he didn’t get a lot of work in LA this season. I didn’t get a chance to form a firm opinion of him as a player, but its always too bad to lose a nice guy!

Miglioranzi. That’s who we lost. Not what I expected and not so bad. A 32 year old midfielder of questionable value to our lineup. I’m okay with that. Frankly, many of Novak’s selections surprised me. But I guess that’s why I’m not an MLS coach.

I say expendable. Migs was okay, but never great. I don’t think I’d even put him in the starting lineup with the current players.
