A European Galaxy Trialist Who’s Actually UNDER Thirty!
By: Laurie | May 22nd, 2007
It looks like the Galaxy have made a mistake. Yes, they’re bringing in another European for a trial. He’s British, he’s a defender… Nothing new there.
But wait a second. Phil Cave, who apparently played most recently for the Newcastle United Reserves, is UNDER thirty! In fact, he just turned twenty a couple of weeks ago. What the heck is up with that? Did Alexi mis-read his birth certificate or something? I thought it was illegal for the Galaxy to bring in Europeans under thirty! Or if they do, don’t they have to deal them to Chivas really, really quickly?
Perhaps not. According to icNewcastle:
Cave, who never played a first-team game for United after progressing through the ranks, told the Chronicle: “It is a fantastic opportunity, which my agent has helped set up, and I will have to see what happens out there.
“I intend to take a holiday there with my girlfriend, but the trial will be arranged for a few days and I will just take it from there.
The Galaxy could use a few more young players willing to give it their all for minimum wage. So good luck, Phil!
(And yes, this is literally the only photo I could find.)
