Actually there are a couple of South American tournaments
which skip the overtime and go directly to kicks. I can
understand it in an exhibition thing like this to save
wear and tear on players.

Oh, and I don’t (and won’t) get this random adding on of penalty kicks post regulation time. I’m starting a conspiracy theory that the Americans-can-never-like-a-game-that-ends-in-a-draw crowd were hard at work here.
If its a high enough stakes game, like a World Cup or a friendly in Minnesota (apparently), do it right, have the overtime, and then the penalties if necessary. Or, if it is a POST-SEASON friendly, assume that even the dim masses understand what a tie is.
I know, its a Copa CUP match, but then why was it called an exhibition game with the home side allowed to fly in players from wherever inclined–including one of the visitors goalies? F**king anarchy!!
Not that I mind…as long as the world’s favorite game isn’t changed in the U.S. on the theory that we have to see numbers on a scoreboard. (It would be easier to accomplish that the way American football did, by making each point worth six .

Diane, all I know about the goal is what the various websites tell me, which is basically nothing. I’ll see if I can’t get a few minutes later today to listen to the tape, at least through the goal. Or I could take your word for it, which would probably be easier.

Jesse, didn’t Buddle score from a pass in open play and not a free-kick? I only listened to the broadcast.
Laurie, sorry I put this in your last post, but the game and therefore announcer doesn’t get going until several minutes into the tape. I can understand they couldn’t avoid the void while waiting for the match to start last night, but they probably could have edited it out before hanging the thing on their site .

From someone who was there, the final on PKs was 3-2 and Cronin did make three saves. There was a trophy to be awarded so immediately following regulation the match went to PKs.

I came across a picture of one of the Timbers defenders playing for Minnesota so I tried to find a box score for the game. It was easier to find the secret White House plans to attack Iran.

And yes Melissa, it looks like Kickette has been hacked. Hopefully there are no breaking news fashion tragedies while the site is down.
