A Little More Galaxy News from Australia

By: Laurie | November 27th, 2007

Apologies for not posting more as we go into the New Zealand and Australia games. I have apparently offended the tech gods and they are NOT smiling on me. In the past two weeks we’ve had one laptop stolen and the other acquire a dead motherboard. And today I lost the modem on my last remaining computer, the desktop, so I have no home internet access. I’ve also lost half a dozen lightbulbs in the past two days. I’m starting to get a little freaked out by this.

(Post-post clarification: What I MEAN here, Ian, is that they all burned out within a few hours of each other. Smart aleck commenter. Apologies for the lack of clarity. This is the kind of thing I write when I’m furtively stealing my neighbor’s wifi signal at 11:30 p.m when he’s asleep..)

But never fear. I SHALL bring you Galaxy news. I have purchased a new laptop (which I needed anyway), and now I get to be one of those people working frantically on their computers at Starbucks while they pretend that they are important. I’ve always wanted to do that.

Latest from the Galaxy in Oz is an article that contains a sweet interview with midfielder Josh Tudela. Whom my buddy Jeff over at Center Holds It refers to as “Monchichi.” I never know whether to giggle or be offended on Josh’s behalf. I mean, Monchichis are sweet and cuddly, right? So it’s probably a compliment. But I’m always happy when Tudela shaves, because then for some reason the resemblance is not so striking.

But I digress. The article starts out by saying that our Becks picked up an ankle knock in training, but don’t worry. It’s not serious. (Whoa. Deja vu.)

And then it goes on to give us this sweet Tudela interview:

Just as there is Beckham, there are the rookies in the Galaxy squad who are earning peanuts compared with his $57 million a year and one of those is 23-year-old midfielder Josh Tudela, who is on $22,700 annually and is desperately hoping to play in front of the biggest crowd he has faced.

“It would be unbelievable to play here – this stadium is amazing,” Tudela said yesterday. “About 30,000 is the biggest crowd I’ve played in front of so far. I don’t know if I’m starting, but I would certainly love to play.”

Asked how he reconciled with being on his meagre wage playing in the same team as a superstar earning a fortune, Tudela replied: “It’s tough what we make, but I can’t compare myself to David Beckham. I came in knowing I’m not going to be paid as much and that’s where I want to start.

“And I want to get up – maybe not to where David’s at – but hopefully where some of the higher-paid guys are at. Growing up I watched David play and it’s amazing to be on the same pitch with him. It’s a dream come true.”

Oh, damn. There goes my maternal area again. I hate when that happens.

I love that little Monchichi but seriously, how’s Jazic fairing down there? And The Cannon? Inquiring minds want to know.

So, did someone steal your lightbulbs as well? Because that’s just weird. Bummer about the laptops. With the writers’ strike on, though, Starbucks needs more self-important laptop users, so it’s good you’re filling in there.

Melissa, I’d love to find a real math report too, but from the little I’ve read about our side — Jazic had a nice touch early in the first half that got cleared, Cannon had an unusually disappointing game and was subbed out during half time (this after what sounded like some impressive fun during Gullit’s first practice session), Beckham ankle knock at half an hour caused a few moments of panic (and sent me back to my lingering injury cover-up theories), Harmse got first yellow and ruckus between teams for challenge on Junhino, Beckham free kick brings match 3-1 Sydney just before half. Buddle scored in beginning of second half, Beckham booked and makes up, Harmse sent off for arm tredding, Donovan scores in 90th to make it 5-3 Sydney.

Didn’t mention Sydney goals because it was hard enough to find out what the Galaxy players were up to. I will now retire from my 90 second career as a match reporter :) .

(match report, not math report, sorry, if it were math I’d really have been done for)

That Galaxy-official blog is awesome! Thanks for the link. I just can’t wait until Kyle Martino is back with the team and can make his pictorial premiere. :) And if you look, they actually have an overview of the events of the Sydney match.
Do you know who writes it? Because they never actually say…

Tiffany, that’s an interesting question. One of the posts is signed “Alexi,” and I think we’re meant to think it’s him, or at least somebody traveling with the team. But you’re right. It doesn’t say.

Good news everyone! (I can’t help but think of Futurama’s Professor Farnsworth when I hear or use this phrase) – Here is a link to the entire Galaxy v Sydney match divided into 11 parts. If you have broadband access…let slip the dogs of competitive futbol. The Galaxy played relatively well for the first 25 minutes or so and then…well you know what went down.

You should find all 11 parts on this YouTube page. All you need now is a nice cold bottle of Slurm. mmm….slurm….aaarrrggghhh….(drool)….aaaarrggghh.

I asked who wrote the site in the post which solicited questions for the trip blog, but haven’t seen a reply.

Thanks for the Sydney FC link, that was the first thorough report I’ve seen, and a bit of fun too!

I remember reading somewhere the blog is done by the same people who did the FC Dallas blog. I don’t know if that helps.
