A Painful Combination of Words

By: Laurie | July 30th, 2007

martino1.jpgI don’t think I’ve made any secret of the fact that Kyle Martino became my favorite Galaxy player right about the time he got red carded in Colorado after trying to take out Herculez Gomez. My only real regret was that somebody pulled him back before he could follow through. (Does this make me warped and twisted? No, wait. Don’t answer that.) I love the passion he’s shown on the field for most of this year.

And so it is with much sadness that I must report the following word pair combination:

Kyle Martino

-AND-

Groin Injury

There are still no words for how icked out I am by the phrase “groin injury.”

And don’t tell me it’s upper leg. I KNOW that. In my head.

*Sigh*

Get better really, really soon, Kyle! The Galaxy need you as much as they need Beckham.

P.S. Don’t you love the retro Crew photo? Not a lot has made me smile this morning. This photo did. It reminds me of the photoshop things they do with Tommy Smyth on ESPN, giving him Toja’s or Beckham’s hair. Except that this was the real deal.

You could replace “groin injury” with the perplexing euphemism currently in use, “sports hernia.” I believe the idea was to remove the word “groin” from headlines and press releases. So instead they use the word “hernia,” as though that has any better connotation.

At least they didn’t say that Kyle got hurt with a “pulled groin.” Oh my aching sides.

    Pulled groin.

    This is me, giggling hysterically.

    I am SO immature.

If that tickles your fancy, you obviously missed the “fatigued right groin” which Roger Clemens suffered from earlier this season and caused him to miss a start.

How one “fatigues” their groin, specifically the right one, is so not beyond my imagination.

I could have so much fun with this comment if only I had not used up my immaturity quota for today.
