A Zidane-to-Galaxy Rumor!!

Three separate people have sent me links to Zidane-to-Galaxy articles. And all three seemed to know exactly what this rumor would do to me. One might think I had a reputation or something. Oh, by the way, I did check the datelines, and none was dated April 1. So while it may be a hoax aimed at sweet, trusting people like me, it’s not an April Fool’s hoax.

Of course, all of the articles came from Europe. And of course European sources are really going to understand things like the MLS salary cap and Designated Player rules. So of course this rumor is credible! How can you doubt??!!

The articles all seem to be saying that Adidas has offered to pay Zidane’s salary because they want him in MLS with Beckham in order to get more publicity. Which actually makes no sense whatsoever. I mean, wouldn’t you get a whole bunch more publicity playing them against each other?

At today's Galaxy Fan Fest, someone asked Lalas, after his state of the Galaxy address (during his autograph signing session), about the Zidane Rumor. He said he just heard about it today and that there was no credibility to that rumor. Obviously if there was he still would not have said. But what I find interesting is that he did say that at one point they were having talks with Zidane but nothing ever came of it. He said he would have to give up another $10 million a year. He said Zidane claims its not about the money, but Lalas said, "Its always about the money."

Laurie, speaking of Europeans writing articles like this, sometimes I'm so tempted to make a post on USA blog titled "Beckham Naturalized as US Citizen, to play in 2010 for World Cup Squad" just to see how much publicity my blog gets, lol.

Remember when Zidane scored, for Real Madrid, on the volley from a 50 yard pass from Beckham? (That question was probably just for Laurie) I have a great photo somewhere of Zidane about to take his one touch. If I've seen it I know it must be on your wall and I think it deserves a full page post in celebration of the rumor mill :)
