The Daily Telegraph in England lists Donovan as the top form player in the Premiership at the moment.

Oh, and Laurie — you are so right about LD and Pienaar creating a wall. That’s pretty darned cute. Of course, where else would they be effective on a free kick?
And I love seeing and hearing Tim Howard yelling at Landon for wall position. What a joy to see them together again week after week.

Omar? Good for him, but Sean deserves the slot.

If only we had this tool for US/MLS matches. Passing has been something of a sore spot between me and Landycakes (I use that term affectionately, not in the pejorative), particularly when it comes to my beloved Edson (who had a terrible season no thanks to injury and all).
I’m very pleased to see LD at Everton. It’ll prep him well for South Africa.

I watched Everton vs. Birmingham today and Donovan played superbly, yet he was limited to very few touches due to the poor performances of many of his teammates.

Thanks George. Didn’t see it and was wondering about that. Let’s hope he keeps getting playing time.

He looks so happy. I wish he didn’t have to come back.

Cahill’s goal was the winning goal, not Donovan’s. Nice goal, though.

Thanks Brenton. I’ll change that.

If Landon scores one or two more goals he won’t come back to LA… but LA will get a nice chunk of transfer change from Everton or another Premiere club. If Stuart Holden makes an impact on Bolton a bunch of EPL managers will turn their eyes to the US in a serious way and look for players other than keepers. This may be the decade of American players in Europe.

Handy deflection off the defender to take it past the ‘keeper, but they all count.

Evertonian, can you tell us more about how he is perceived by Everton fans? What is it about him that you like so much?
Posted from

He is percieved by Everton fans generally as being a very good player. I personally have been most impressed by his pace and very direct style of play also he’s the best corner taker in the squad. I’ll think you’ll find that most evertonians are keen on him staying as was evident from the chants of USA that reverberated around the ground when he scored on wednesday night.

All of the Brit press clippings I’ve seen are also very positive. I too hope he stays, despite the harm it would do the Galaxy. It’s better for him and for the USMNT. But I think MLS is going to want at least $15M for him. Would Everton really pay that to keep him?

Anyone know a good place to get a Donovan away jersey (new one or last year’s) for less than $100?

You can get this one for $84.99 with his name and number.

Andrea Canales says (in the above link) that his price is 7M. I think that’s doable.

And so begin the reports that Donovan will be staying in England: http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/Everton-look-to-seal-permanent-deal-for-Donovan/5429/. Sounds very fishy to me though. MLS got $10M for Altidore. I can’t see them taking less for Donovan, especially not with a brand spanking new contract.

I’ve heard all sorts of reports along those lines. And you are right, 3M pounds isn’t likely enough to let him go. But I DO believe Everton are going to make a bid for him. I’ve been waiting for more believable sources to chime in with more detailed information as the original source of the recent reports is a British tabloid.
We can hope though, right?

Ives says there is no buy out clause in Donovan’s contract, so LA would have to agree to let him go. Much as I would like to see it happen, it just seems so unlikely right now. Maybe….
