I subscribe to the Simpsons/Frasier theory of humor writing: Never explain anything. If people don’t get it, they don’t get it. And then the ones who do get it can feel smugly superior to everybody else.

Because don’t you feel superior for knowing what I meant, Mr. Nantucket?

Just wanted to say I appreciated that Nantucket joke – I’m curious as to how many people got it, because there’s a local Nantucket joke that often gets confused with the limerick (not nearly as funny).

And you can borrow my “I’m the man from Nantucket….” t-shirt anytime you’d like. The best part about it is I’m from the area and spent a lot of time on the island as a kid – so I could look completely oblivious when somebody mentioned it and then say, “But I am from Nantucket.” It’s the little things that make life worth living.
