And Now It’s Hong Kong for the Galaxy
By: Laurie | February 26th, 2008
The Galaxy are off to Asia. (Well, except for the ones with boo-boos which need care stateside. I read somewhere that those guys headed back Monday. I think this may have included Edson Buddle and his collarbone, but now I can’t find my source, so don’t quote me.)
But the others are heading off to play the previously mentioned games in S. Korea (FC Seoul on March 1) and China (Shanghai-Hong Kong United on March 5). And now we’ve added a trip to Hong Kong on March 9 (vs. Hong Kong Union) to the list. A bit more of an exotic schedule than the college/USL/other MLS sides those other loser teams are playing this preseason, huh? What fun it is being the SuperClub.*
And guess what? They’re all going to be televised on Fox Soccer Channel.
Isn’t this one of the best things about having Becks on our team? Remember last year when we were lucky to get a couple of paragraphs about our preseason games, and those usually took days to appear? Now we get to see them with our own eyes. Thank you, David.
All three games will be televised in the United States by the Fox Soccer Channel, the first and third live at 11:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The game against Shanghai-Hong Kong United will be shown on a delayed basis at 8 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on March 5.
Oh, and the most interesting part of the article?
Foreign tours are among the ways the Galaxy hopes to meet its goal of generating 100 million dollars a year in revenues, which would put it among the top tier of teams around the world.
Not that we didn’t know this already, of course. But I’m a little surprised to actually see them come out and say, “Yes, we are pimping the boys for huge bucks” in black and white.
(Okay, so I’m paraphrasing.)
With luck they’ll all have fun in the process, though, and come back home fit and uninjured.
*This is completely unrelated, but the word “SuperClub” made me think of it. Check out this rather humorous Alexi Lalas post over at Who Ate All the Cupcakes.

This site here has a list of the roster traveling on to Asia.
http://ussoccerplayers.com/exclusives/index.html?article_id=1145I find it interesting that Kelly Gray has been sent home. As far as I know, he’s not injured - he just played pretty badly in that first game and didn’t play in the 2nd. I wonder if he’s going to be sent elsewhere (sadly, along with Kyle Martino maybe?). The Galaxy have to trim the roster down by March 1, I believe.
And yes, God bless having David Beckham on this team - we actually get to see all their games!!

Harmse will be traded hopefully far away, Gray possibly as well. Gray I am actually a bit dissapointed he could be going; he seems like another one of those former Galaxy players who will do really well somewhere else. Harmse I am worried will break one of our players legs when we play him next. Sesay I think will be put on the Development Roster and possible see some time later this year. We are crowded up top with Donovan, Ruiz, and Buddle. I am actually pretty excited about our roster on paper and from what I have seen so far. A 1-0 loss and a 2-1 win are pretty decent scorelines. I love that I can watch or record the games on t.v., let all the other teams play their preseason games versus other MLS or college teams, I want Asia. So I am wondering who will be the next late twenties early thirties superstar we bring to the club as Beckham-mania dwindles down. Their is no way we are going back to playing UCSB or PDL teams.

Remember, for us in LA the first game is actually on 2/29 and the third is on 3/8.

Thank you, George. I completely missed the NZ and Australia games for this reason.

First, I’d just like to say that this is by far the best blog on the LA Galaxy I’ve seen - thanks Laurie!
Second, you mentioned that you didn’t have your source on Edson Buddle’s injury. Here’s an article from the LA Soccer News that talks about it:
