As Promised, the Beckham and Girlfriend Strip Scrabble Story

I know you’ve been dying to hear this since I mentioned it, so (for those of you who didn’t rush right out and google “Beckham Strip Scrabble”), here’s the scoop on…well…David Beckham and Strip Scrabble.

Seems our Becks got rather friendly with a young lady a few years back, way back in his Manchester United glory days, while he was engaged to Posh Spice Victoria. (And while she was pregnant with their son.) And while The Other Woman swears she and our David didn’t actually do the deed, among the many extracurricular activities they engaged in were at least one game of Strip Scrabble.

Should I give you a moment to let that sink in?

Okay, now. Is anybody else getting these visions of our David announcing, “Exegesis. Triple Word Score”??

Yeah, me neither. I’m thinking that either a) this woman is lying, (which is a possibility, since this came out as she was promoting a reality TV show she was on) or b) David can actually spell. Or perhaps there’s another option: c) they created an alternative Scrabble version. Such as:

–Spelling Optional Scrabble
–Words From the Bathroom Walls Scrabble, or perhaps
–Monosyllabic Scrabble (although this might still include toughies like “through” and “straight.” So maybe not.)

(Feel free to provide your own options.)

And I do actually kind of love Beckham. I mean, yes, maybe there was a time when I considered him a sarong-wearing pretty boy. And part of me still does. But…well, first I watched him captain the England team at World Cup. (And the fact that he didn’t play all that well? And that they were ousted on penalties in the quarter finals? Well, like I’ve said, I’m an American. We’re easier to impress over here.) And then I saw him ralph on the field, and cry at the press conference. And that’s when my brain kind of went all fuzzy and maternal, (truly, it was out of my control) and I started thinking he needed to come to MLS where we could take care of him.

And look where he is now.

But it’s just that…well… I wouldn’t list “eloquence” as one of his top talents.

I’m thinking of a 5-letter word that means not very smart. Starts with an i and ends with a t.

By the way, he is now going to be featured in ads for Disney: “David Beckham plays the part of the gallant Prince Phillip from “Sleeping Beauty,” atop his trusted steed fighting the evil dragon. Thetagline reads, “Where imagination saves the day.”

The evil forces are all coming together…
