Beckham Fed up and Ready to Leave MLS? Oh, Please
By: Laurie | March 15th, 2008
This has been showing up in news items from all over the world. (And I find it interesting how often things like this show up in Asia first. Do Asian media companies have direct lines into Beckham’s brain or what?)
This one, though, is showing up in the perennially reliable OK! Magazine. (Note that all-important exclamation point. Because this stuff is not just OK, it’s OK!)
“David is very close to his family and would much rather be living in the UK,” a source close to the couple tells OK!. “A lot of things haven’t gone the way they thought it would.” The insider adds that there are whispers that the soccer stud would be very happy if someone bought out his contract with his current team, the L.A. Galaxy.
Oh, please. Do you think the Galaxy will just let him go? This man is THE future and THE face of the LA Galaxy. The team is built around him. They’ve got merchandising plans. And not just that, they’ve spent all of their capital — financial, human and everything else there is — building a team that can get on the end of those Beckham throughballs and free kicks without breaking the salary cap. Without him they’re just all shades of suck. (Sorry. But you know it’s true.)
But even if Beckham were to think about invoking Webster and buying out his contract? I just can’t imagine him ever stepping away from a challenge. It’s not in his personality. This team, and this league, need his help. He’s all about being there for people who need him. Always has been. He strikes me as the ultimate slave to duty. He’s not going to walk away.
Right, David?

that’s right! he’s been saying for years how he’d like to come to America, and really it is all about the future generations who he is out to influence. He wants to make a difference with kids, which is why he has all of his academies, and he knows that that age group loves soccer in the US. He isn’t going to just walk away now when they are finally starting to get things together. it wasn’t until his last days at real madrid that he got any sort of cup win! he’s tenacious. and we’ll believe the best of him.

What concerns me is that Beckham has not really done any interviews in the football/soccer media here. His PR machines sucks. You can’t come to this country and say you’re about the football and then avoid the very media that actually you know, cares about the sport.

A blogosphere brushfire! Here’s the article first cited as the rumor’s source (as well it might be because who reads that crap anyway…oops), and it’s still a hilariously long stretch to get from this to fed up and out: Mrs Becks was interviewed for UK Vogue at their house outside of London and she said that it was nice to have all the outdoor space for the kids, but “if we lived in England full-time, which at some point I’m sure we will, we would have to have a house in London as well because its just not practical when I’m here and working.”
I love the internet.

Vamos, you’re right, this is old news with him. He doesn’t like to do interviews about his game until he’s said something on the pitch first. It’s frustrating, on the other hand I guess he’ll have a lot more credibility when/if (fingers crossed) people see why they should be listening to him. Can’t WAIT for this season to get started already!
