Beckham Makes a Difference for England

By: Laurie | June 7th, 2007

Who Ate All the Pies has this to say about David Beckham’s triumphant return to the England NT in their 3-0 win over Estonia:

David Beckham A revelation since his return to the England fold. Set up two goals - his pass for Crouch’s goal was a beauty. We only wish he would not drop so deep to pick up the ball sometimes. As a result, England’s attacking patterns are very, very predictable, but when Becks gets it right, they are also impossible to defend against, so who are we to argue? 8 MAN OF THE MATCH

Okay, yeah, granted, it was Estonia. Estonia is currently tied for the bottom of the Group with 0 points. But since Beckham had a hand in two out of the three goals… Well, if he hadn’t been on the team, there’s the chance that England might have won by only one. With Beckham, they can rightfully say they dominated not just the game but the scoreline. And England needs that right now.

(And on a related note, no, I don’t want to talk about my beloved France National Team’s game yesterday, okay? They won. They’re leading the group. That’s all you need to know.)

Check out the goals from the Estonia game. (And can somebody please tell me who the Galaxy have to consistently get on the end of those balls to put them in? There will be somebody, right?)
