Beckham re-Injured in Practice?

By: Laurie | October 18th, 2007

david_beckham.jpgAnd so goes the season.

KNBC Sports in Los Angeles is reporting that David Beckham reinjured his ankle yesterday in practice and may not be making the triumphant return that everybody had predicted.

“He returned to practice Oct. 2 and practiced both Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, in Wednesday’s practice, he aggravated a left ankle injury that had limited his playing time since debuting with the Galaxy July 21.”

Is anybody surprised? Didn’t we all know this was going to happen as he tried to get ready, probably prematurely, for both the possibility of the Galaxy playoffs and the England Euro qualifier next month?

Frank Yallop was already saying Beckham wouldn’t start tonight, and that he (Frank)wouldn’t tinker with his winning starting lineup to make way for players returning from injury. (Big winners: Josh Tudela and Troy Roberts. Big losers: Kelly Gray and Kevin Harmse.)

I guess Frank’s substitute decisions just got a little easier. *Sigh.* (I’m wondering if $6.5 million per year for a thirty-two-year-old will look like a great deal next time.)

Let’s hope Beckham doesn’t even attempt to play from here on out, playoffs or no, and just lets his body heal. And hopefully the other guys haven’t let their guards down at the thought of the wounded warrior returning.

  • what a disaster. regardless of tonites game, this is a huge shame. ouch.
  • I just read in my local paper that Beckham will be available in the active list, which could mean the injury was minimal and we might see him as a sub. What do we believe?

That's my problem too, JustJack. How do you go from being 31 and still quick to recover, and then 32 and a "sprain" takes four months? I'm hoping re-whacking it on a frequent basis didn't cause permanent damage so few months after he was pretty much at the top of his game. :( Yuck.

OK, now I'm a Chabal fan, just from the title of the baby photo. I'm still wiping the tears from my eyes, I'm laughing so hard. Oh-so-French too, some of the finest barbarian graphic novels come from France, now they got a live one to go with.

The Becks thing is freaking me out a little.... I'm always amazed Cobi is still able to walk let alone play at his age with all the punishment he takes... and Becks is no schlump but, man, this has gotta hurt him as much as it hurts all of us. It must totally suck to have to watch and not play.

Good news about the baby. So I'm sticking with cuddly...first photo only, and no grease. You never know, that's why you ask the hard questions :) .
  • Diane, that photo is apparently of his own daughter. And the name of the photo, as received, was, "Chabal eats babies." Made me laugh and feel queasy at the same time. But the man is so damn sexy.

    I mean...um...so I'm told.

Moving on from medical cynicism to the journalistic variety...this quote, from a once amusingly ethnocentic Times column, doesn't seem that witty at the moment, "....We thought they were going to inadequately challenge him; in fact, they are more likely to kill him." Oy VEY (that's me not The Times).

We're all winners when Kelly Back-turned-on-goal-at-all-times-back-passing-always Gray is not in the lineup.

A sprain that bore weight? Four months? Really. Let's see the MRI's.

Or, I'll just assume it was redone a few times until the conspiracy theorists weigh in.

Oh, and that big guy in the last post? Cuddly...if only he wasn't trying to eat a baby or something.
