Beckham to Arrive July 13

By: Laurie | June 28th, 2007

Leave it to reality to make a liar out of me. Apparently David Beckham is cutting his vacation short so he can arrive, Mighty Mouse fashion, singing, “Here I come to…to save the DAY!!” (Have any of you ever seen Mighty Mouse, or did that go completely over your heads?)

OrlandoSentinel.com quotes the AP:

David Beckham will be officially introduced as the newest member of the Los Angeles Galaxy on July 13 at the team’s stadium in Carson.

Beckham, currently vacationing after helping Real Madrid win the Spanish League title, will arrive in Los Angeles a few days before his introductory news conference and first training session with the Major League Soccer team.

Beckham is expected to make his playing debut in a friendly against England’s Chelsea on July 21 at Home Depot Center.

July 21. Against Chelsea. Isn’t that what everybody’s been saying all along? But it does give MLS an extra eight days to milk the publicity.

But I guess when you’re dealing with Brand Beckham, that’s worth something.

Wouldn’t it be brilliant if the Galaxy let up on the publicity milking for a minute (I doubt the pumps will need priming anyway) and consider something novel like having a new player train with the team for a few days before their next match? (Or even introduce him to the concept of astroturf ;-)
