Beckham Training Pictures

becks-training.jpgFirst thing: Is this a true color for the new training jersey? If so, I’m liking this a lot. On the Adidas website it looks more mustard-y and not nearly as nice. If it’s this slightly more reddish-gold color I may have to buy one. Can somebody who was at the open practice tell me what the color is like?

Second, click here for a whole slew of training photos. (Thanks to Dave for the link!)

And third, yes, Beckham did train today. He trained on his own, giving his ankle a rest. But there is good news here:

“He did not train fully, yet there was little to doubt his assurance that he would be ready for a Galaxy debut on Saturday against Chelsea, completing his recovery from the ankle injury he sustained in England’s European qualifier against Estonia last month.”

Little to doubt his assurance? That’s positive, right?

I’m changing my assessment for Saturday. He’ll play the first half and then be subbed out. We’ll still lose 2-1.

  • IIRC, Malouda didn't make the trip. Of course, I'm talking out my anus as usual, half-remembering something I think I might have read on one of the 4 billion soccer blogs I read every day.

hey, anyone know if the galaxy are training again this week?
  • Josh, thanks so much for the firsthand account!!

    Amen, amen, amen.

"[Yallop]seems like a walking corpse." How much do you want to bet that he's at San Jose next year, taking Landon with him?

I'll probably go research this myself soon, but do you know if Florent Malouda made the trip with Chelsea? He just transferred in from Lyon. I love Malouda.

the jersey looks like that. i really liked it.

beckham seemed awkward. like a dog with his tail between his legs. maybe because there were 15 year old girls screaming every time he looked at the stands, but it seemed like it was because he felt out of place not training with the rest of the team. a ton of people were there to see him, after all. i'm pretty sure the stretches and stuff he was doing were pointless - landon donovan said at the press conference beckham trains longer than anyone else because he wants to be ready to play. so him juggling the ball with his trainer probably wasn't going to get him ready for saturday. he was just out there for the cameras. sad. he jogged around once with the team then went to a corner and tried to look busy and made those cool pictures you see up there. i wouldn't say he "trained" as much as he "posed" - but at the same time i could tell he would have rather been with the team.

he seemed to buddy it up with albright. and also #22 -i forget who that is. i think he fit in.

all the guys seemed to like the attention. i think (hope) it'll energize them. unless yallop sucks it out of them, he seems like a walking corpse.

chelsea: amazing to watch. no words. seeing them play immediately after really hammered in the difference in sheer talent, but i think (hope) our boys work hard(er?) and can pull off an upset
  • Chris. hope springs eternal, no?
Plus the guys are going to be playing their guts out on this one, and all it will take is one perfect Beckham free kick to Pavon's head or another body part. (Or an anti-Martino transgression in the box.)Hey, it could happen, right?

Downs, Giggle. I can see it happening. :-)

Laurie that has your name all over it.
  • This in LA Observed:

    Striking the right tone

With all the gushing about David Beckham and his wife coming to town, it's nice to see the Venice-based eTrueSports — "Dedicated to taking scraps of truth and turning them into absurdist nonsense" — adding some punctuation to the coverage:

David Beckham, worried about LA traffic, has made a tender offer for the Pacific Coast Highway with the intention of taking the road private. "It will be like a big driveway," explained wife Posh Spice.
  • Be honest, do you REALLY expect the galaxy to score a goal against CSKA London?
