I’m sure Becks’d rather play for England. They will be fine without him though. They’ve got the Chelsea Five on board. Good for Becks to watch on teevee. OTOH, we could use him but that’s like wishing for a suicide, eh?

Oh I think Lala is just having fantasies of grandeur or something. What a total boob.

Ian, I think I had that nightmare! You know: Galaxy gets to decisive match via strange table structure, conveniently brings ringer back for the occasion, opposing players spend more time trying to kill him than trying to win. Have you noticed that shin pads get smaller every year btw?

Yeah, as a France fan, I guess I just expect conflict. I forget that there are reasonable managers in the world.

It’s good to hear Beckham is off the official list for the England matches. That’s good for everyone (except, possibly, England). As for who he WANTS to play for, I don’t think there’s any question he would prefer to play for England. Beckham has always been a country over club guy, and even more so now, but he’s not ready for that level of competition. Hopefully, we’ll see him play in another game or so in the US before someone comes along and slashes his ankle again and he falls flatter than Dida (except in actual pain).

The England squad list for Estonia (10/13) and Russia (10/18) came out this morning and Beckham’s not on it which guarantees he won’t be playing in those games.

Since they’re official FIFA qualifiers, if an injured player was named in the squad and their club didn’t want them to go there would be the dueling managers and MD’s and flying x-rays and FA’s and finally FIFA would have the last word.

USUALLY all parties involved try to avoid that and come to an agreement before the squad is called up — or if the injury happens after then quickly so the spot can be filled. No one wants to alienate each other completely (manager-manager-player), well except certain national team managers with Issues.
