Beckham’s Schedule: Can You Say “Conflict”?
By: Laurie | May 26th, 2007
Okay, let’s say you’re Phil Anschutz of AEG. You’ve shelled out $6.5 million this year (plus who knows how much in revenue sharing) for the one and only player you think can be the savior of MLS. He’s not available until the season is halfway over, and your team plays like they’re lost without him, but you can handle this.
The player is older, and therefore more prone to injuries, and your own schedule is already beyond packed after he arrives, but you’re sure he’s up to it.
MLS has completely refigured its schedule around him to amp up the revenues in all markets. Okay, fine, it will all work out, everything’s looking rosy.
And then he is recalled to his National Team. And that National Team is pretty much on the other side of the world.
Let’s take a look at what this means for the Galaxy, shall we?
England
Sept. 8 - England v Israel
Sept. 12 - England v Russia
Oct. 13 - England v Estonia
Oct. 17 - Russia v England
Nov 21 - England v Croatia
Galaxy
Sept. 8 - LA v Colorado
Sept. 13 - Chivas v LA
Oct. 13 - LA v TFC
Oct. 18 - LA v NYRB
Nov. 18 - MLS Cup final
I wonder if Mr. Anschutz is stocking up on Maalox and Valium today?
(Thanks to reader Alan for doing my calendar research for me!)

The England schedule and the Galaxy schedule is so close games for England one day and the very next one for the Galaxy. What do you want to bet there will be some MLS rescheduling going on?
