Beckham May Not Play in Dallas
By: Laurie | July 30th, 2007Gosh. What a surprise. David Beckham may not play on Tuesday.
Tell me you didn’t see this one coming.
Reuters reports that Frank Yallop will decide today whether or not Beckham will make the trip to Dallas for the Galaxy’s final group game in SuperLiga. A game in which, by the way, we need at least a draw to advance. Yallop says:
“There’s no way that we’re going to send him out when he’s not ready to play for us. He wants to play properly and prove to the guys why we brought him over.”
Of course. That’s why he didn’t play against Chelsea. Because he wants to play properly.
Oh, wait. Never mind.
Becks was listed as a substitute on Saturday night, despite the fact that there was absolutely no chance he might play, so he could experience life from the bench. Rather than, y’know, from a luxury box drinking champagne with Posh.
“Plus this is a good learning experience to get him used to the players, when they get ready for matches, how they react and all that sort of thing.
“So, when it (Beckham’s return) comes along, it won’t be a surprise about how we prepare for games, my team talks and half-time talks as well. He kind of knows how we operate.”
Yes, thank goodness. Wouldn’t want Becks to be shocked by those half-time talks. Because, y’know, when you’ve been playing for fifteen or so years, every half-time talk is different, and that’s what could really throw him off and keep him from playing well. When he finally plays. Eventually. Sometime down the road. When he’s better. Whenever that is.
Probably the next time there are big bucks involved.
Damn. I think I’m getting cynical.
