Sharpie and Becks. Because…yeah.
By: Laurie | March 11th, 2008David Beckham’s latest endorsement is so logical yet so…so…not Beckham…that it kind of makes you nod. While scratching your head.
Seems he’s been hired on as the new spokesmodel for…are you ready for this? Sharpie markers.
What’s the connection?
It’s the autograph thing, of course.
Atlanta-based Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE: NWL) said Beckham will spearhead a global marketing campaign starting in the United States in early March. The campaign will seek to establish Sharpie as the “preferred autograph marker” and will laud the marker’s other creative uses. …
“Like the Sharpie brand, David embodies individuality and creative expression,” said Howard Heckes, Sharpie global business unit president. “He is the rare athlete who transcends nationality and sport to command worldwide attention, making him the perfect ambassador for Sharpie marker users who are as passionate about the bold mark of a Sharpie as they are about the colors, variety and almost limitless uses of the product.”
Um…yeah. Colors. Variety. Almost limitless uses.
And they’re so damn sexy, too.

I saw this as a headline yesterday and made a mental note to do some research. Thanks for the reminder, as my mental notes don’t always stick in the week after the time change.

I saw a Sharpie commercial with Beckham on GSN (Game Show Network). It showed him signing his name on a golf ball, but you could only see his hands (who knows if they were even his hands). Then a voice said something like “The only marker that scores for David Beckham.”
