For those of you who get FSC, the Everton FC vs. Manchester City match will be televised tomorrow (Saturday the 16th) at 9:30 Pacific.

I figure more of you have FSC than Setanta or the other premium channels, so this is your shot to watch LD at his home game debut. In the UK Donovan is receiving 14:1 odds of scoring in his first home match.

I will not be live blogging the match, but I will come back with comments after the game. You can see Landon’s interview regarding the Man. City game here as well as the previous link.

Thanks George. Didn't see it and was wondering about that. Let's hope he keeps getting playing time.

I watched Everton vs. Birmingham today and Donovan played superbly, yet he was limited to very few touches due to the poor performances of many of his teammates.

Aw man, I need another $150 a month to get my FSC back... I'm totally missin' out now.

Oh, and Laurie -- you are so right about LD and Pienaar creating a wall. That's pretty darned cute. Of course, where else would they be effective on a free kick?

And I love seeing and hearing Tim Howard yelling at Landon for wall position. What a joy to see them together again week after week.

The Daily Telegraph in England lists Donovan as the top form player in the Premiership at the moment.

You all know how I want him to stay. And I think he has a good case for staying as well. With Dempsey down (and likely out), and Davies out, and Gooch just barely/hopefully/maybe getting back in time, the US needs Landon to be at the very top of his game. I think he accomplishes that by remaining with Everton. What we need to find out is what, exactly, is in his new contract that allows him overseas opportunities. From the sound of it, the new contract makes it easier for him to go on loan. And I wouldn't be surprised if Landon does what Beckham did and try to buy some of the contract with his own money.

This post captures my thoughts thoroughly:

The Times of London gave Donovan 7 out of 10 on the game. Pretty good. And the Telegraph reports that the crowd chanted "USA" on one of his breakaways!

So here's the rub. He plays well. Everton wants to keep him. Other teams are interested. But he still probably comes back here for the season. And he has a long term contract. And MLS is going to want $15 million for him. And Everton probably won't pay it. And I don't know that anyone else will either.
  • Also, is it just me, or is a two-man wall with little bitty Donovan and little bitty Pienaar, elbows linked, just the cutest thing ever? I want to stick one in each pocket.
  • Darn. I was hoping to come keep you company. Just got back five minutes before the half, but am enjoying this a lot. This is the first Everton game I've seen all year and I'd forgotten how much I like them.
