Cobi Jones is Galaxy’s New Assistant Coach!

By: Laurie | November 9th, 2007

Just last week I was depressed because I hadn’t realized until after the retirement that Cobi Jones can contract to “CoJones.” I was afraid I’d never get the chance to write it out.

Well, guess what? CoJones is our new assistant coach under Ruud Gullit, so I’ll get to write it all next season. Color me happy.

“It’s a huge challenge to be here but it’s all here for the taking,” said Gullit, who was European Footballer of the Year in 1987. “The Galaxy is used to winning things and we will try everything in our power to win more titles here.
“I hope to find a team that is curious, that is ambitious and that plays with a lot of heart.
“I don’t know a lot about the MLS and that’s why I have appointed Cobi (Jones) as my assistant (coach) so I can use his knowledge.”

Anybody else hoping Gullit will grow back the dreads? What a visual the two of them would make!

I kind of like the alternating ones. There’s something to be said for a little diversity. :-) :-):-)

    You guys crack me up.

C’mon Yallop — what have you got up your sleeve now?

Yallop’s only proportional response would be to steal Landycakes and make him captain / assistant manager. Or to steal both Landycakes and Klein and give them both something / something-else positions. That would show this European carpetbagger Gullit. I am a complete neutral in this, though I like seeing a recognizable European name come to coach here — I just want this rivalry to be as ridiculous as possible, since the Gals-Chivas one seems a little lame, at least from afar.

I am so with you Ian its not even funny. I think Yallop’s gonna counter with something so non-exciting, I may develop narcolepsy from the fallout. My prediction? Welcome back to SJ assistant coach Ian Russell.

I’m going to grow dreads if Ruud does… I fully expect the same from Becks too…. hoo hoooo!

I’m very excited for Cobi and I hope he does really well. I’m so glad that we’ll still see him round the HDC. And, once the strike is over, I’m going to get me some season tix. Total futbol! Manager-coach boss and Number 1 both of African descent, pioneering in ‘Merkuh! Becks in LA! And now, Total Dreads! oh yeah! I’m gonna get to be a superfan again!
