He kicked that ball pretty high into the goal, almost worrying me there for a moment.

I saw this goal and was doing a happy-happy dance! I then immediately thought of Chelsea’s similar goal that was called back last month because the AR, who was out of position (cardinal SIN!) put up his flag and the Center (I think Jim Webb of all people) called the goal back… no, no, no! It’s not offside when the player is behind (NOT “closer to the goal line than the ball”) the ball… it’s one of the basic three conditions for determining position which, if you don’t have, you cannot possibly commit the offside foul. Thankfully the AR at HDC was in-position (can’t tell from FSC’s camera but I saw it live–which added to my excitement). Unlike Chelsea LA wasn’t savagely robbed of that wonderful and vitally important goal.
It brings to mind that article Diane linked to, which was irreverently hilarious to read (thanks, Diane, it made my day), where the Brits were all smug and condescending on MLS (OK I do it too but I’m ‘Merkin so I’m allowed) but at least here they didn’t deny a legitimate goal when it mattered!!!! Hooo hoooo!
We love to see Edson Buddle finish like that… especially as the ball is skipping up off the grass… and still able to pop it up under the crossbar… sweeeeet!

Oh, I wanted to say have a pint on me, AR, because that was one hell of a sequence to watch: sprinting your ass off while guys fifty times your fitness and half your age blast forward on the ball, still keeping everything lined up off the second to last defender, noting the position of each white jersey and the ball, first when Klein moves at the time the ball is touched to him-then accelerates at speed, and then do it all over again an instant later for the cross to Buddle, and stay locked in position at speed-of-play, then to accelerate to match the ball to ensure it actually crosses the line. Damn, that’s some fine work to not blow it. Any know the AR’s name? I’m serious about that pint, that AR totally earned it.

Won’t say, but sure was thinking it, but JustJack makes a great point about the cross not being a forward pass.
