I really thought Donovan's reaction was hilarious. Perhaps it's because I'm not a Dallas fan, but I didn't find it offensive at all. He said "Game Over", nothing offensive, nothing crude even. The gesture, well, that's not the best gesture, but he wasn't making it about the players or the fans...just towards the fans. It must have been incredibly frustrating to see them come back and to score the goal that should have sealed the game was probably awesome for him. It's not like he pulled a Paolo di Canio or anything like that; he made a simple gesture, so what? Sorry if you can't read lips, but that's how it goes.

Perhaps I found it funnier than it really was because I was only watching the highlights and new what was coming. Far from over, really. And it's always far from over. It was Donovan's mistake to be so pompous, but it wasn't offensive.

I’m very disappointed with Donovan. He behavior was abhorrent, and should not be tolerated by the fans. As the face of the Galaxy and the USMNT he should have more class. A great win for the Galaxy against FCD, but a tragic day for Donovan.

Superliga 2007 was determined by a combination of the best teams + best possible marketing. As in it was originally DC (who have good attendance and won the SS last year), Chicago (won Open cup, huge Mexican population), Dallas (topped west; huge Mexican population), and the Galaxy (huge Mexican population, good attendance, and um..... Donovan and Becks). Houston fans went batshit that they won the MLS cup and yet were not included, so the league dropped Chicago when they should have dropped LA and let Houston in. I think the Mexican league extended invitations to every team going down the table until they got four (maybe they invited Chivas and CA first and Morelia has a relationship with Chicago).

Next year the commish has made it clear that the MLS sides in Superliga will be the top four on points regardless of conference or marketing considerations. So look forward to Superliga New England and Superliga Kansas City. LA isn't going to make it, they'll be lucky to make the playoffs.

What exactly is the excuse for Galaxy playing in the Superliga? Is it the champions and second place of Mexico, plus the champions of MLS and whichever MLS team has the highest-payed player? If it really was just meant to be a Beck-fest, it makes it that much funnier that he pulled up lame for it. Sorry to the visiting fans that don't get to see him, but that's not how tournaments should be decided.

Excellent first 20 minutes by the Galaxy... the way the city of Dallas got all up in arms about Beckham not playing, I'm thrilled the Beck-less Galaxy could shut them up with four (!!) early goals - a huge statement for a team that the suits are advertising as a one trick pony. Just because Posh isn't there doesn't mean you aren't going to get a show. Can you imagine all those Dallas non-fans asking for a refund? I'm sorry, that's not how it works, if Air Jordan took a day off when the Bulls were on the road, nobody got their money back, they're not going to cancel the game because of it... though LA's going to do just that to the Australia trip if Beckham isn't fit, haha.

Yes, Landon's booking for the throat-slashing celebration was too bad... an NFL-like reaction to a display of emotion from the country's most important player... I see no need to stifle that. I wasn't sure that the passion of the first two games would be there tonight (this was supposed to be the boring set of games, the set without the US-Mexico undertone telling the neutral fans who to root for) but I was glad to see that the intensity was there - the last thing we need is the officials trying to dampen the excitement and emotion.

<em>"Too bad we wont be playing in SuperLiga next year to defend our potential title. There’s no way we’re getting to the top of the table."</em>

The crowd didn't get Becks but they got a very exciting MLS game! I hope it encourages at least some of them to return. I also heard that Dallas was offering special prices for next year's games with Beckham for people who went tonight expecting to see him. I hope this is true. GALAXY FTW! Too bad we wont be playing in SuperLiga next year to defend our potential title. There's no way we're getting to the top of the table.

Dana, I actually missed that goal. It happened in one of those moments when I got up and stalked away from my computer in disgust at seeing them sucking so epically. Little did I know that they would get the ball back and score. (Note to self: In a game like this, don't take a break or you'll miss a goal.)

I did see the replay, though. The foul was officially for "game disrepute," aka having a bad attitude, and it seemed to come as a result of that "off with their heads" gesture. It looked like he was being heckled and reacted. Anybody have more details?

Dana Looked like he was mouthing "game over" I think that was just frustration that dallas fought back and scored 3 goals and was generally dominating.

My DVR stopped recording during the 46th minute. I can't believe I missed the last 2 goals! I think I agree with about every word you said Laurie. Especially the part about needing a drink (lol!)
Since I don't understand more than a few words of Spanish, can anyone tell me what was up with Landon Donovan and the yellow card? What was that all about? I loved the way he just seemed to guide right through the Dallas defense, around the keeper and scored! Why doesn't he do that more often? What was he so angry about ? What was with the "off with their heads" gesture?
