DC-Galaxy Preview
By: Laurie | August 8th, 2007MLSnet is early this week! Game preview for tomorrow’s match, complete with my favorite reading material, the Galaxy Game Guide! Woohoo yippee. Except that when I clicked on the Game Guide link it went nowhere. So…well… Damn. There goes MY week. Now I’m depressed.
I don’t know why I love these MLSnet previews so much. It’s not like they tell us anything, with the exception of who’s gotten injured, which we’d never hear about otherwise. (This game? Troy Roberts is the newcomer to the injury list with an ankle injury.)
Ankle. Yeah. I hear that’s going around.
And speaking of injuries, here it is again: Kyle Martino (L groin). Poor Kyle. He’s going to be so thrilled when he’s completely done with this injury, because then the insane woman who writes that Galaxy Offside blog will let him be! But we’re not there yet. Sorry, Kyle!
After seeing this in the game preview, I decided to google “Kyle Martino groin.” (Don’t ask me why. This is the kind of thing that seems like an excellent idea when you get five hours of sleep.) There were 878 hits. So I’m not the only one talking about this, okay? However, I must proudly announce that the top two hits are mine. And both of them quote the following excerpt: “found the above link by searching this blog for the words “Martino groin.” Wow. My mother would be so proud. (And I am so glad she is computer illiterate.)
Note to the sports writing universe: This is your signal to come up with a new name for the affliction. And let’s not go with “sports hernia,” either. Another ick.
Oh. Wait. This is supposed to be a preview of the DC-Galaxy game! So here’s that injury report.
INJURY REPORT: LOS ANGELES GALAXY – OUT: DF Troy Roberts (R ankle); DF Chris Albright (R hamstring); MF Cobi Jones (R hip), DF Kyle Veris (R hip); QUESTIONABLE: MF David Beckham (L ankle), FW Edson Buddle (L Achilles); PROBABLE: MF Kyle Martino (L groin)
D.C. UNITED – OUT: FW Jamil Walker (Achilles rupture); MF: Justin Moose (sports hernia); PROBABLE: DF Greg Vanney (ankle sprain) …
And Kevin Harmse is now one yellow card away from suspension, so let’s just all accept that it’s going to happen tomorrow and be happy about it. It’s the price you pay for passion. Go, Kevin!
The big story for our boys is going to be the weather. At 11:00 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday it’s currentl7 91 degrees, mostly cloudy, humidity 55%, feels like 100 degrees. It’s supposed to be a couple of degrees cooler tomorrow, but not much. And they’re expecting thunderstorms, which are always fun in a hot, humid environment. Stay strong, boys, and get ready to sweat. Drink plenty of fluids, and…
Oh, sorry. Sometimes the mom in me just slips out.
I’m not seeing anything official on David Beckham yet. You know if he were healthy, they’d be trumpeting it to the skies, so I’m guessing he’s a no-go.
7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Remember, boys and girls, that’s 4:00 Pacific.

I will be at the game tomorrow, though I have yet to break it to my mom that Beckham probably won’t be playing (she’s only going to see him).
I will let you know how the Cobi thing goes.
