Dear Blue, I was having a moment of exhaustion with focusing so much on all of the things MLS and Galaxy have screwed up in their introduction and use of Beckham that the matches get lost. In that light, all Fans automatically fall into the category of those who have been behaving appropriately. If the heat of rivalry prevents you from celebrating Cobi, that’s a sort of tribute in itself…and it sounds like you are definitely already planning to “go to the f*cking game, have a great time…and not care whether Beckham plays.” I’m a European fan so I wish you all the fantastic atmosphere every home ground deserves (ire included)! What, are you saying that DC fans are not allowed to be angry that their team is choosing to honor a guy who is represtentative of one of the teams they hate most, who has occasionally scored some heartbreaking goals against us and has on some occasions taunted the supporters groups? This is different from honoring His Holiness Eddie Pope when RSL comes through because he has in the past been a very important player for DC. In most other leagues both international soccer and other US sports honoring an athlete who very well might play for the away team that game, plays for a hated adversary and is not very liked locally would be nixed. Especially on a day when there are to many idiots around more interested in the gals than United. Hope Jaime scores 109 tommorrow just so the atmosphere is appropriately pro home team.

With all the “these are not fans” articles flying about, this one–which was not intended to be–is the first that really got me to lose patience with humanity!
Event though I have been vocally in the right to heal camp, I’ve probably not been that bothered about Beckham because he’s been in the center of the public dart board before (hmmm, literally) and it pretty much passes when he starts playing again.
BUT *****NOW***** that I realize we are ACTUALLY at the point where we have to worry about whether a gracious tribute to one of MLS and US’s great retiring players (can I add nice?) is too much for the ignorant, ill-informed, spoiled, and bizarrely angry masses to handle…I have had enough.
SO, here’s the plan (since everyone anywhere planning to attend an MLS match is obviously reading this): get over yourselves!!!!!!!!!, go to the f*cking match, have a great time, give Cobi a rousing send-off because he deserves it, and forget about whether Beckham plays or not until his foot’s better because every player deserves that.
