Donovan: Love Gave Me a Hat Trick. (Or: Women Make You Grow Up)(Okay, that’s a paraphrase)

By: Laurie | March 27th, 2007

I missed the US-Ecuador game on Sunday, but by all accounts Landon Donovan was brilliant, scoring a truly amazing hat trick. (Be sure to check out my brother-in-blog Connor’s USMNT blog for more details, because the goals were genuinely awesome.)

So how did the Galaxy’s notoriously brilliant-yet-inconsistent Landon do it? He credits the power of love. “I got married this offseason, which helped me grow up a lot.”

There are all kinds of things I could say here, but let’s not diminish the moment. Instead I’ll give you more from Landon:

“I am now embracing a leadership role – I used to say that I would love to be a leader, but it’s not good enough just to say it.”

Amen, Landon. Amen.

(Is anybody else feeling a sudden surge of hope for the Galaxy this season?)

  • No hope here. (: He's always been good at talking. Let's just wait and see if he actually DOES something.
