Donovan to Serie A Club Livorno?
By: jen | July 21st, 2009
Livorno president Aldo Spinelli confirms that they are in talks.
Spinelli states that his transfer fee wouldn’t be a problem, but his actual wage requirements might pose an issue.
It seems as though Landon’s days of being courted have arrived.
The Three’s Company theme song keeps running through my head. “Come on knock on our doooooor. We’ve been waiting for youuuuuuu . . .”

I just saw that — I linked to another blog in the Dose, but now that this is here I’ll link to you instead.
Go, Landon!!!!! (Please, please, please, he so deserves this.)

And how can less thatn $1 million be a problem. Unless he’s looking for a lot more than at the Galaxy?

Wait a minute. Isn’t Livorno going to be playing Serie B this year?

Scratch that. Misread an article. My apologies.

You bet he wants a raise. And he deserves one.

The thing that’s encouraging is that they’re not put off by the transfer fee. So does that mean MLS is actually willing to deal? If not Livorno, perhaps someone else. but I’d love to see him playing in Italy or Spain, either one.

Don’t you know Livorno team and its fans?

My biggest concern would be what would happen if Livorno drops back down to Serie B. Would Landon come back to MLS? Hopefully in that scenario Landon will have impressed enough to find another team in the top flight.

Dear Eric,
I don’t think Livorno drops back down to Serie B.
- Our president Spinelli will not lose the chance to receive the premium of around 20 mln, thanking the new rules coming from the Italian Soccer Leaugue (Lega calcio serie A), if Livorno will maintain serie A for 2010-2011 seasons. So he is very motivated to made a strong team for the next seasons
- In the team there are very good famous players as Tavano, Diamanti and Lucarelli and young ones like Candreva, Perrticone
- In our town the fans are really amazing (we live for the “maglia amaranto”) so, after 1 year in serie B will support as strong as possible his team being the 12nd players in the field…The point is that Landon is not the player we are looking for. We already have forwards and offensive midfielders.

If I were Donovan, I’d take what they offer in the short-term, then prove my worth and commitment and demand a raise. Anything to get back to Europe.

Laurie, thanks for the linkage.
I don’t think he has to jump at this and take it at all. I think it’s just the beginning of several offers that will come his way. Also, he won’t be able to leave until the MLS season is over — so that makes this summer transfer window a little too early for some teams. He’ll have offers on the table for the winter transfer window for sure.

The question for me is will the currently in the playoffs Galaxy sell, leaving a *ahem* less than motivated Beckham as the “leader”.

Diamanti and Tavano are better players than Donovan, but I think Diamanti will go, which opens up the move for Donovan.

A move to serie A would destroy Donovan’s career and WC play. He will not play and will be unfit come WC 2010. As much as I hate him the U.S. needs him. And he really needs to only consider moving for more playing time like he did to Bayern. When the MLS season ends early he should go sit on a bench in europe and practice with the first team.

@CUCS. Is playing in the MLS really that much better? Get him a chance to work and practice with legitimate talent as soon as possible.

I think it is funny.
I do not think Donovan is a good player, and i think his inability to stick with a quality European side is proof. Livorno is not a great club. they are perfect for each other

Galaxy > Livorno. Donovan is better than most people think, especially those who haven’t seen him tear up defenses for the past 10 years…
Just because it’s the FIRST offer of the season for Landon doesn’t mean it’s the ONLY or the BEST. He should wait for another team to come calling, like a lower level EPL team.
However, as a Galaxy fan, I don’t want him to go…

Spinelli (President of Livorno) just loves attention, hence why he said he was interested in Onyewu post-Confed cup. Doubt it’d happen.

I think at this point (and from things LD said, particularly during the Bayern loan) that he wouldn’t go unless it was to a top ranked team. I’m sure his agent wants to start the buzz, though. But when you see Guch go to ACM, how could you then go to Livorno…

Livorno’s too small time for LD, IMO.

I doubt LD will go to Livorno as well.

@Colin hahaha you think galaxy is a better club than Livorno. The galaxy have been a lower level MLS club

I agree Colin, I don’t want him to go either. If he does, I’ll never get to see him play, except for the National team games. And what will happen to the Galaxy without LD?

@CUCS: Ok, the Galaxy have been a lower level MLS club the last 2 years… and I still believe the Galaxy could beat Livorno.
