Donovan to the EPL? This Season?!?! Say It Ain’t So, Landon!
By: Laurie | July 22nd, 2008
According to Yanks Abroad, Landon Donovan’s agent has refused to deny rumors that Landon’s looking to go to the EPL, possibly this summer.
Donovan was recently quoted by the English media giant as saying, “The older I get and the more I play, the more I’m yearning for that highest level I can play at.”
“I think the Premiership would be the best place the play.”
[...]The US international’s agent Richard Motzkin, though with few words, did not dispute the story.
“Yes, [Donovan has expressed to a desire to play in the Premier League,]” said Motzkin, before refusing comment about who, if any clubs had made contact this summer.
When asked if Donovan would entertain a move to the Premier League for the upcoming season if an offer took place prior to August 31, Motzkin quipped, “sure,” before adding that any potential suitors would be, “ones that play entertaining, attacking and technical soccer.”
Oh, ouch. Let’s just kiss our MLS Cup aspirations goodbye right now, why don’t we?
Landon! Don’t abandon us! Tell us you love us best!
Don’t LEEEEEEEEEAAAVVE!!!!!!!!
Wait. Did that sound needy?

Since LA will need a 2nd DP next year to keep LANDO, i see this happening. Because if Landon doesn’t stay in L.A. i want him overseas. I cant see him in another uniform.

Well maybe i’m wrong, i wonder if we’ll ever find out but I’d rather have him stay here.

I just don’t get the whole DP thing, seems like MLS make up those rules as they go along. I wonder if Fulham want Carlos (JK).

Giam – he didnt fail – he was called back home by his then girlfriend. Thats where my comments coming from. He said he missed his friends and his girlfriend and was more comfortable here than Germany. But England is a different beast – he would be amazing.

He was 16 when he went to the german club end of discussion.

He’s at the age where he has to move for Europe if he ever wants to be taken seriously. He would be good for a mid-tier English club, no more than that though.

I would say he probably joins a team in the second half of the table who is in the relegation mix. (Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Stoke, West Brom, Hull, Fulham, etc). I dont think he will be on a team fighting for Europe. And if he goes…replacements?

—smiling— what makes you think west Brom will finish in the bottom half of the prem?

As usual, I second everything Dave M. says. The man knows his stuff.

I agree with the good for hims. May be unfortunate for Galaxy in the short term, but its always good to see someone get a chance to show their best. Even a second chance.
The footy fans in my house predicted that the “Beckham effect,” that brings more attention to the league, would mean more shopping here for exports. But that will help it go both ways more as the level of play here improves across the board — which I already notice and not just because of the few big names. It looks like a lot of players are rising to the challenge of being kicked around be an even wider int’l audience. Good boys!

Good luck to Landycakes but lets get to the serious question. If he moves to Europe, does that mean his wife’s awful tv show will get canceled? If so, I say you aren’t getting any younger dude.

Hey me and my wife like that show!

Justin, remember that he went when he was 16, and then AGAIN during the ‘04 season.

Yeah when he was 22.

So you’re proving my point? End of discussion.

Oh yeah because at 21 or 22 most kids now days don’t still live with their parents or with friends in college. No he was overseas playing a game, and had no family.

If losing Landycakes wasnt bad enough I guess Buddle got a bid from a european club and they said that the Mls Alstar game could be his last game in the states…uh oh

We are not going to let Buddle go for the $1 million bid that was given that is a joke. If he keeps playing good Next year he would be worth way more.

Landon needs to be challenged, and this year he has shown how well he can play with another great player, so imagine him on a team surrounded by great talent. Landon MUST go to Europe to improve his game
Just hope he does it at the end of the season!

Landycakes should go if he gets the pickup. It’d be good for him for a host of reasons: humility that is long overdue to the poor pretty-boy, a final proof of life (is he really o-ver-ra-ted or not), it’s good to play with the big boyz now and again, and he’ll get a full treatment by Brit press on his ritual antics.
For me, it’d be good to see him go because I think he’s terribly overrated, gets far more attention than his work-rate and skills warrant, and he gets a chance to make me eat my words and buy everyone more beer.
And really, I want to see the Jose quote, Nicole. I just don’t believe the Special One would say such a thing. Given that he speaks still so highly of supah-Frank, I cannot imagine him granting similar qualities on Landycakes who is the diabolical opposite of supah-Frank. Speaking of supah-Frank, Lando could use a bit of Frank Lampard’s humble pie.

Oh I wanted to conclude that all things come back to Chelsea… for on the first Day gawd separated light from dark and that place was Stamford Bridge… the HDC cameo n the seventh day when gawd rested. That’s just how it all is.
and in the end we still have my beloved,

Not sure about all that Chelsea stuff, i’d say God’s keeping his distance from that place. You just happen to be along for the ride on billionaire’s play thing.

Limey, I am no plastic Chelsea fan, thank you. Been there since before Ruud’s days at the Bridge. KTBFFH!
And then there was the Galaxy at the Arroyo…. the good ole days.
