Everybody Ignores Day 1 of the World Series of Football
By: Laurie | July 17th, 2007If a Galaxy game were played without Beckham, would anybody notice?
Apparently not, because I am finding NOTHING about day 1 of the World Series of Football. Which is, y’know, today. Galaxy Homepage? All Beckham. LA Soccer News? Ditto. I guess it’s up to us lowly soccer bloggers to fill you in. (NOTE: Tonight’s game is Another Freakin’ Telefutura Game, which means my cable company won’t offer it, unless I want to pay extra to get all of the Spanish language channels. I don’t speak Spanish, and my husband would probably tell you I already flush away enough money trying to track down soccer games on multiple continents. So somebody else will have to tell us how it goes.)
Andy at Chelsea Offside has a writeup on the Suwon Samsung Bluewings, the one team we’re not playing. If you’re interested, be sure to check out his post.
And Saturday we’re playing Chelsea in the big (possible) Beckham debut, so there will be a lot more coverage of that team and game as the week plays out.
Which leave us with our opponent for tonight, Tigres UANL of Mexico. What can I tell you about he Tigres?
Well, for starters, let’s go to that wonderful modern invention, Wikipedia. I love Wikipedia. Have I mentioned that before? If you’re passionate about only one thing in your life, you can go to Wikipedia and knock yourself out. (And no, I haven’t written anything about French football. Recently.) And plus? None of what you write has to be factual. As a matter of fact, pretty much everything on this team in Wikipedia conflicts with other sources. Or at least it did when I went in to write my first draft. By the time that draft was finished, all of the Wikipedia facts had changed and nothing I had written was true anymore. I am not making this up.
So, in conclusion, I have no clue about anything about Tigres UANL, and pretty much everything on the web is in Spanish. Have I mentioned I don’t speak Spanish? If you do, feel free to do the research for me. I will thank you when you’re done.
Oh, one last thing? They beat FC Dallas 2-0 recently. Apply the transitive property and this means we’re dead.
UPDATE: At last, MLSnet and the Galaxy homepage deliver the goods. Here’s their article on the game. Money quote from Landon Donovan: “We understand it doesn’t technically mean anything…”
