From San Jose: Yallop is in a Better Place

By: Laurie | November 10th, 2007

In case you’re worried about Frank Yallop up in San Jose?

Well, let’s just say that some believe he is in a better place.

From the San Jose Mercury News:

The happiness and relief on Frank Yallop’s face were clearly visible Tuesday.

Sure, he was happy to be introduced, once again, as the coach of the San Jose Earthquakes. But he also had to be darned happy that there were only four reporters in the audience. No swarms of British tabloids. Nobody from People magazine or “Entertainment Tonight.”

And he had to be extremely happy that looking back at him were the supportive faces of owner Lew Wolff and General Manager John Doyle, not the shifty-eyed AEG folks and back-stabbing Alexi Lalas.

David Beckham has done one nice thing for Major League Soccer, aside from selling lots of jerseys and tickets for games he didn’t play in. His presence in Los Angeles created an untenable situation that allowed the expansion Earthquakes to bring back Yallop. That probably will make that dormant Earthquakes-Galaxy rivalry quite riveting in the future.

Ooh. Burn.

We needed a rivalry, right? The league was boring without it. And effing FC Dallas didn’t measure up.

So…

Frank? You are dead to me.

I was at the Cal St. Fullerton-UC Santa Barbara soccer game on Friday and who should be sitting 2 rows in front of me was Frank Yallop himself. Probably scouting for the Quakes and I didn't want to bother him but my cohorts wanted to have a few choice words with him. Thankfully they restrained themselves.

Just because your team made this little run at the end of the season doesn't make them any better than what they were for the entire season......shite utter shite, and it wasn't because of the coaching either...it was the players mate.
  • Hey thanks for posting that. I still don't seem to have a blog yet. Soon internet-land soon...

I guess that whole Chivas rivalry thing wasn't exciting enough? Well, I can see how its just filler until Norcal and Socal can get back to properly hating on each other again.

Also, was Lalas absent at the entire Gullit introduction thing? I didn't see him hovering over Gullit or Jones like he did with Yallop (constantly... like a terrible dictator). I hope thats a sign of the future for The Galaxy.

I already feel sorry for Ruud Gullit..he will have a tough time handling the british and the entertainment media (the only ones who cares about "Galaxy" playing :) )
